I'm going to be in Seattle this weekend (Feb 7 & 8, 2004) and I'm looking for a good cigar shop preferably in the downtown area near the Seattle Center and Pike Place.

To bad you're not staying through the 10th when several, perhaps a dozen of us Cbidders converge at McCormicks Harborside for a serious herf from 4pm to whenever...

The Seattle area has nice places to go enjoy a cigar, but with a 140% combined sales and sin tax on cigars the retail market to buy a cigar is not great. Bringing your own is recommended.

My favorite cigar stor here is the Tinder Box on Main Street in Bellevue. I'll probably be there tonige and thursday from 5: 00 to 6:00 killing some time before a meeting. They have a nice selection, serve wine, beer and coffee/expresso and have several tables to relax and enjoy a smoke.

Do not go to the one on 1st and Pike, unless you like mold.

Downtown on Fifth Avenue between Pike and Pine across the street from the Nordstrom store. Look for the sign and go down the stairs below street level.

DB is right about the tax hit. Buying cigars at retail in Seattle is a desperation move almost.

Hey lenny4z, I guess dbguru has little respect for our hosts ...

Look here Slim and Lenny....

You both are making the ridiculous assumption that cigar retailers in Seattle compete with cigarbid and hence should not be mentioned on this board. In general, a cigar that you can get on Cbid for 3 bucks would cost you 8 bucks on average here in WA state because of the crazy taxes here. Most of them here are going out of business or are barely surviving, What I did was to recommend that our visitor bring his cigars (most likely purchased at CigarBid) from his home up here. Turnberry and I mentioned a couple of places he could buy a cigar or two if he was do inclined. So what if I do it here rather than on email... And who the h*** are you two? the official Cbid cops, judge and jury?

To insinuate that my mentioning a couple of good places to go have a cigar up here in Seattle to a visitor violates etiquette on this board is absolutely ridiculous. Also, to accuse me of having no respect for Cbid and this online community is also pure stupidity. I have done a lot to support this online community, have helped to develop a growing local group of Cbid herfers up here in Seattle who are becoming good friends and consistently attract new customers for Cbid. On this Forum, I've authored many lively threads and have personally been a good Cbid customer (probably to good).

Look, you 2 are probably reasonably intelligent guys, but his kind of judgementalism is pretty stupid. I guess your entitled to your own opinion but I certainly don't respect this one and I'm sure others agree with me. Maybe its your type of comments that should be taken offline. But I think an apology is probably more appropriate.

Thank you for keeping me on my toes but I think that I'm being completely respectful. I'm just trying to find a good cigar shop in a city I'll be visiting. It's not like cbid will get any less of my money 🙂

I should post my e-mail all the time
[email protected]

dbguru-
Yeah I saw the post for the Seattle Herf coming up, and I'm really dissapointed that I can't make it. I live in Ellensburg and I'm a working stiff... so I gotta get up and go work for the man. I'll make it to one this summer when I can ride my motorcycle over and herf, herf, herf.

turnberry-
Yeah I've heard about the dreaded taxation but I live in a small town and getting to a "real" cigar shop is something of a treat. I'll hit the place you suggest and maybe pick up one or two just because I'm there.

Much appreciated

I gotta side with db on this one. If I can direct a small amount of business on occasion to a cigar shop in Seattle to a visitor I'll do it. These places are not internet competitors with CBid or CI and most of them have declined to a struggling status due to the combined impact of internet distributors (who I use regularly) and the 140% effective taxation rate in WA. Most of them are nice folks and it bothers me that I don't do more business with them because spending time in their walk-ins is very enjoyable.

These places are not a flyspeck on CBid or CI radar screen and certainly no disrespect or redirection of business was intended. I don't think our hosts have any trouble competing with these guys.

I cannot even find a cigar in a B&M in Bellingham, WA that does not have mold (all two shops). Can you imagine boxes of Ashton VSG with mold all throughout the humidor!!!! What a waste, a horrible waste. Besides, one is more of a head shop than a cigar shop. I will get to Seattle to herf soon and I do love C-bid!

What a lot of you new folks don't realize ...

... is that for years, the CigarBid staff didn't allow mention of ANY cigar retailers on their forums ... because no mater how you want to look at it, they are STILL competiton if they sell cigars, no mater what they cost.

Especially when you go into the detail in mentioning specific locations and addresses, and blantantly doing it after someone here graciously mentioned that it should be taken to email.

Over those years, ther have been those people who continued to do it anyway ... and I think they just gave up, or got tired of waisting their time editing out such mentions.

Personally, I still think that is is disrepectful to our hosts, to mention such places in their house, and I did it without saying it was a 'stupid' thing for you to do ...

... and if it's someone, who owes anyone an apology, it's YOU dbguru, to our gracious hosts ...

Castle, im in Bellingham too. The cigar situation in NW washington is a joke. If youre lucky enough to find one around here, itll either be 6x too expensive, no selection, or poor quality. or all 3.

Reality check. Anybody who follows this board here in WA and uses a local to try a cigar they think they may like then immediately uses CBid or CI to buy it in the future at a considerably better price. CB and CI wins.

My suggestion was in the spirit of helping out a fellow BOTL and I thought that was a large part of what we are about here.

So, other than following through on bassdudes great boxpass this is the last post from this new folk. Ciao'

I live in the state of WA....Bothell/Woodinville area to be exact. I have walked into maybe 5 or 6 shops, and NEVER purchased anything in the State of Washington. I have, however, spent ATLEAST 1000 dollars in 3 months @ CBid.

!!!!!CMON!!!!

I apologize Slim, and I don't mean to shoot the messenger in any way....but this is ridiculous. I, for one, do not want Turnberry(Fred), to stop putting in his .02.....and I definitely don't want someone like DBguru, who I know has been around here supporting CBid For A Long Time, think that he got the Slap for no reason.

We all said Bring Your Own Cigars....didn't we?

Whoa. What the heck happened here? I'm just a BOTL looking for a good cigar shop while traveling. I meant no harm to our hosts or other BOTL in trying to find this information, if some feel that it was wrong of me to tempt others to violate the rules of this forum, I humbly apologize.

However, I don’t think that I harmed anyone or broke any rules. Regardless of what has happened in the past, make no mistake that if the purveyors of Cigarbid did not want something posted it would be eliminated.

-Slim, with all due respect, and I understand your attempt to keep things in line around here, but it is obvious that you have offended at least 2 people here. And we may have lost BOTL because of your actions. Especially when he was trying to do good! That’s just not cool. You may want to reassess your interpretation of the rules of this forum.

-Turnberry is absolutely right though. When I get the opportunity to go to a tobacconist (which is rare) it’s usually to try a cigar that is discussed here on cigarbid, then, if I like it, I’ll buy it here too.

Oh, and I think that everyone should go and buy lots of smokes at www.reallysuperdupercigarsatacheapprice.com 😉 (It’s the devil in me).

Throm --- "make no mistake that if the purveyors of Cigarbid did not want something posted it would be eliminated" ... you can't be serious, can you?

The staff here are extremely busy, and do not monitor every post, or thread, that gets posted in these forums. A lot will slip by them, if it is not brought to their attention.

You also state, "it is obvious that you have offended at least 2 people here. And we may have lost BOTL because of your actions."

That really made me laugh ...

Anyone who leaves because of me ... I have really got to wonder about them. Especially with what I said here ... being as light as it was.

Give me a break ... 😉

Yes I am serious. I understand that the good folks here at cigarbid are hard at work but I'm sure that they monitor what goes on here at least periodically. I've seen a post where one minute there was a web address, and the next it was www.#######.

Look, I've taken nothing to offense here, and I agree with you that what you wrote was light, but read this thread, in order, and right after you've replied to this thread, there has been a reply from someone who got upset by what you typed (this note discluded). I'm not making it up. It seems pretty clear to me, and smelly4tay too. It's difficult to tell a person's voice inflections in writing, and what you may have written was done with grace and charm but when someone else reads it, it may read rough and mean. But I digress; I think that in retrospect, lenny4z had it right. I should have posted my question with my e-mail and had discussions that way. Hindsight and all…

I would like to add that the rules here are pretty loose and up to much interpretation.

OK, in the spirit of preserving harmony among all of us good guys let's wrap this up and clear the air.

I stand by my observation that the last party posing a business risk to CBid is a small WA cigar shop who is not an internet dealer of any kind and subject to a 140% effective taxation rate on tobacco products.

But Slim has a point that irrespective of the above they are a dealer and as such mentioning them is technically inconsistent with the rules of the road for the board. So as long as we're using their board that's fair.

I'm posting when I said yesterday I was done. Well that was stupid. I am not known for a high degree of patience and yesterday all the buttons were pushed. I am trying to get a tough deal done for a client with a s***load of their money at risk and am redefining the term "stress" at the moment.

Too many good friends and BOTL here to not hang around.
