I was bummed last night. Returned to my Tuesday night $2 UCallIt ritual. Always go with an otterbox with plenty to go around should I meet anyone. Well, a college guy asked me if I was selling cigars. I said no...but I have some if you want one. He asked what I had. I asked if he knew anything about them and if he recognized the CAO from my MX2 cap I was sporting. He said he did and liked Macanudos and ACIDS (smoking an Ambrosia Spice at the time...but come the hell on...your 2 favorite cigars are Macs and ACIDs?). I pulled out a CAO Lannie Maddie Napoleon.

He asked me what I wanted for it. I said nothing. He told me he didn't take handouts. I told him, 'man, it's just good to run into someone who knows about cigars. That's why I bring so many...I'll only let you have this as a gift. He said sorry and was goig to give it back. I told him to keep it. He offered to give me a ISOM Cohiba the next Tuesday...Said that wasn't worth a Cohiba so he ended up buying me a drink.

Dammit. It's not often I have the means to spread the wealth. Maybe if I see him next Tuesday and he has something on him we can trade...that's a helluva lot better feeling than arguing over trying to give him one.

But I had 7 whiskeys...so I ended up feeling fine.

... I recently had my truck broken into, for the first time ...

... and all they stole was my 'Otterbox' full of my favorites ...

...sorry ... just had to vent ...

*laugh* well, here's to whiskey and generous BOTLs.

guy sounds like he's very very green to cigars and "cigar culture" for lack of a better term. i've been astonished at how much there is to the "cigar culture" in terms of how people interact. it's really like membership into a club that has its own unwritten rules and regulations, like "if a brother offers you a cigar, take it. thank him. enjoy it. offer him one if you have it; if not, know that it's a joy for him to share with you."

i hate calling it "cigar culture" -- like it's some kind of MTV show. "lifestyle?" eh. anyway, you know what i mean.

hopefully he'll continue on and learn and grow and try more and then "get it" -- thanks to a brother with the gift of a nice cigar.

good on you for doing that. and i hope you find some true-blue BOTLs to herf with!

Billy...being a college guy myself, I think I'm in a good position to analyze this guy.
he likes Mac's and Acids??? he's obviously VERY new to 'gars. Mac's and Acids are probably the first 'gars he ever had...i know that when i first started, all i could say i liked was what i'd tried! like Cav said, he'll learn.
p.s. that ISOM he offered...it was probably either a gift to him, or maybe he bought it just b/c it was an ISOM (if he did, it's probably fake and he doesn't even know it!)

not to mention....Mac's are the first 'gars almost EVERYBODY tries first! AND Cohiba is one of the most well known ISOM brands...prob'ly one of the only ones he knows of!

That really sucks. And they probably don't have a clue as to what they have. At least they didn't steal the car itself.

I had a Bro-in-law like that once. Wasn't anything personal against anyone, he just had a thing about accepting gifts. I've met several other people like this over the years as well. Some people are just uncomfortable.

I'd rather have the whiskey instead of the Acid.

reminds me of the time when I walked into a bar to read a little and have a smoke to kill some time. found a guy smoking a cigar with the only empy chair in the place. He immediately asked if I wanted to join him and then after talking about cigars for a while I asked for my bill and he paid for it - what a guy! Makes me think this "cigar culture" is for real....for those who have any experience in it...

besides I'm sure you would take a makers/cigar trade any day.....

A very similar thing happened to me as well... a year or so back, I had some time to kill, so I went into my local cigar store here in NYC, purchased an AF Short Story, and had a quick smoke while reading the paper.

No sooner than I finished my smoke, a guy walks in the store, sits down in the sofa across from me and starts to chat. Turns out to be a pilot for one of the larger carriers, in town for the night. We sit and talk for a while, then the guy pulls out a handful of smokes from his case and offers me a PSD#3 ... my first.

We sat back, had long chat and enjoyed one of the best smokes I ever had. As we finished them up, he said he had to be up early and had to split. On his way out insisted that I take another PSD#3 for later and walked out.

Till this day that is my favorite smoke. I am still in awe of his generosity and I try to live up to that standard.

Well from my point of view Chuckler, you definetly live up to that standard. Again great trade.

Sorry for the threadjack.
