I'm in the center with the beige pants. We booted the girl over a year ago. Jake, our drummer knew. When we approached him with the idea of bringing her in, his response was something like, "What?! We're bringing a chick in the band?" Always listen to your drummer, unless he goes by the name of BeatDragon. { =^ )

The smiles that Greg and I are wearing are likely due to a little mistake that one of us made. Like those poker faces? And what about the private cocktail table?

Of course you know how to tell when there's a girl singer knocking at the door: she doesn't know when to come in.

I had one many years ago who was quite the prima donna. Might pick up a guitar stand on the way out, but that's about it, and she'd stand around blabbing during a break, then when we all started heading back up on stage, she'd suddenly have to go to the bathroom, every night without fail.

Of course the view's not bad if you're the drummer.

Doc, you don't know how right you are. Our drummer whored himself out to a side project and has been too busy to play with us lately. He's playing with us next Wed., but we're not sure we want him back.

Even without a drum machine, I've been able to keep better time for the guys than we ever had. Amazing how good guitar solos can get when they can relax and count on the beat to be there.

The producer made him play to a click and that was quite a shock. Long story short, our once errogant, constantly soloing drummer has come out of this side project a humble man. He used to think it was us rushing him. Well, let's just say that's no longer the case. Don't get me wrong, he's a damn good drummer when he doesn't over-play, but I'm looking forward to seeing how he's improved.

You guys are a bunch of big headed know nothing pieces of festering horse dung! Maybe if you didnt just play the root notes the drummer wouldnt be bored to tears. Crap ass bass players and those other things...oh yeah Guitar yankers always wanting drummers to be metronomes cuz they have they have all the rythum of a white guy. And heaven forbid the drummer do anything but be your click track cuz he might step on someones mindless, boring ass, over done, self indulgent, twiddle in the middle solo.

BTW, if you notice in my post, I refer to the improvement of the guitar solos with better rythm time. I mention nothing of myself. You see, some of us have more of a producer's mentality and think of the whole song first rather than our individual parts. It's all this competition between soloists that gets in the way of good music. I, myself suck so bad that I couldn't possibly compete with these guys anyway, well everyone but the drummer that is. = )

I can't stand seeing these "kids" play the bass with a pick. Nothing like the sound of a solid thump with your thumb!

I'm pretty much a finger only player. Only bring the thumb in play for some occasional slapping. This band is pretty much a gang of hard rockers, though so slapping is rarely fitting.

I play with a pic and I'm no kid Penguin. I've played with a number of bands in my time and you would be surprised how many musicians prefer the bass player to use a pic. I've been told MANY times "I'm glad you use a pic. I can actually hear the bass now". Theres nothing wrong with using a pic. Its just a different style. You wouldn't fault a guitarist for not playing with a pic would you?

We have a female singer who is very good. So they aren't all bad. But I did like cigarick's joke. True in many cases.

A good bassist should be able to "go both ways" ala John Paul Jones...

No way you could pull of the beginning of "How Many More Times" with a pick.

BUT it would be wrong to jam on some old school heavy stuff like Accept without one.

Oh for sure. Just like you can't play funk music with a pick. You need that slap and pop sound. But try to play some Slayer or Overkill without a pick and you will fall behind very quickly. I played guitar before bass so that is why I do it. Plus there are lots of professional bass players that use a pick. Gene Simmons comes to mind.

But what I think looks silly is when bass players play with their fingers and have the hanging up high on them. Like almost to their neck.

Sketcha is at least playing his at a respectable height.

Im working on one. We are supposed to take some pics this weekend so I can finish. Unfortunatly we cant seem to find a bassist for this project so no live action shots since we have yet to gig....damn it. Have a rough demo tho so it will have some audio clips.

I might be making fun of John Entwistle if I knew who that was.

Mine either. Thanks to my older siblings, I like older stuff but The Who never did anything for me. Entwistle was a hell of a bassist tho!!!

For the record, I occasionally bring out the pick when the song calls for it. Maybe once or twice in a 4-hour night. Also, The Allman Brothers' various bassists have always used picks and they're not exactly "new school." AC-DC as well. There IS a certain punch to the note than can only be had with a pick.

We used to have a site. It was pretty nice too with clips of all the songs on our latest album with the chick, but I've let it expire, even the address registration. We changed our name when we booted the broad, too much baggage attached. If you want I can send you some compressed artwork. If I get a wild hair, I may even post some here.
