Here's a fun idea. How about a weekly Nascar pool? We could do it each week for the upcoming race. Start a new thread announcing each race on Mondays. People can sign up for the pool during the week. On Friday night, everyone is randomly assigned a number from 1-43. That number will correspond to a starting position. Whatever driver starts in that position would be their driver for that race. After the race, whichever person has the highest finishing driver WINS! The other participants would then send a small package of cigars to the winner. Nothing too big, as it's more for fun. I'd say 3-5 sticks. We could run it weekly, with no full time commitment, so people could join only when they wanted. If there's sufficient interest, we could brainstorm to solidify some of the details. Biggest question be be the random assignment. We'll need a trusting member to pull numbers out of a hat or something. Maybe a non-participant? Obviously too late for Rockingham, but we could get started for next weeks race. What do you say?

Put me down for Sterling Marlin every week. He is a Pimp, and I know nothing about Nascar. Wahooooo!

Smelly, from what I understand, it's more like a pickum pool in football, where you buy squares. You agree to join the pool, and on Friday, someone picks names out of a hat and whatever your number in order is, you get that starting position. Whatever driver is in that starting position is YOUR driver! that way you don't get five or six people picking the top drivers, and everybody else sitting out, because they can't have a top driver. Any given week, you may have Earnhardt, Stewart, Martin, Waltrip, or some rookie. You pays yer money, and takes yer chances! 🙂

are you going to pull and release the numbers before qualifications ?

I think we should pull the #'s Thursday night. Then, we won't know ahead of time who our driver is. Then, Friday night after qualifying, we'll all have a driver to match our number. We should take actual qual. position only- if they change an engine and start in the rear, we would use the qualified position, not the start position. If qualifying is rained out -they'll still have a 1-43 lineup, it'll just be determined by owners points. I can post a message starting tomorrow for the Vegas race. I have no problem keeping tabs on the participants and their drivers and such. Does anyone have any other suggestions? How about the drawing of the numbers? Do we trust one of us to do it each week? Maybe a non-participant? Maybe Clive could have Liz do it?

She says she'll do it, if everyone's agreeable.

Alrighty. If she pulls the numbers, do you want her to keep track of the participants during the week? If not, they can respond to my thread, and Thursday night I can email her a list. Then, she could post the results.

Hey seth... you may be onto something there to add to the fun........
you said

how bout including that ? if you pull numbers thursday night, you'll know who's got what number . so then we could see on qualifications who qualifiy where.....follow me ?
now you know who you are rooting for , right ?
now wouldn't it suck to be you if for some reason or another your driver had to ...say....change an engine?
well tough noogies...that's your driver ?
.....well ?
it doesn't happen that often and only adds a small twist.

Absolutely. In other words, if you have #1, and say, Jr. wins the pole. He's your driver. If he changes a motor, and then due to Nascar rules, he has to start in 43rd, then he is still your driver. That's your take also, isn't it? I have another suggestion too, open for opinions: say we only have 5 people interested in playing. Why not have 8 drivers pulled for each of them? If 10 people play, then pull 4 each, and so forth. Enough, so that the majority of the field is covered by everyone playing the game. Some food for thought. . . . .

Seth, I was going to suggest that! that way, there will always be a winner! I have one other suggestion, and will withdraw it if there are any objections. Since Liz A) has no job, and doesn't drive, so it's hard to get one, and 😎 43 is a prime number, and you can never get an equal division of 43 unless you have 43 participants, Let Liz have #43 so if the guy who starts in the last position wins, she gets a little something for her trouble. She was the one who got ME into NASCAR, and I know she'ld love to play, but since her access to premium gars is dependent on me, and she has to remain non-participatory to maintain impartiality, she has someone to root for herself. What do you say?

I like the idea. Lets start tomorrow. I'll post a new thread; list the rules, and take names up until Thursday. I'll send Liz the list Thursday, and she'll pull the numbers, with her getting 43. Remember, we can start anew each week, so it isn't a weekly commitment from everyone. They can get in whenever they feel up for it.

They have a week off, so we won't start the first pool until next Sunday night, for the Vegas race. I like the idea of sending a couple of your nastiest dog rockets to the first one out.

The more the merrier. 43 cars start, 43 smokers can play (42 + Liz). Imagine winning, and recieving 42 cigar bombs in the mail!!
