Hello all,

I simply wanted to introduce myself and ask a basic question. First off, I've been smoking cigars on and off for 10 years and recently started getting serious about them again. It's seems that every time I sit at the computer for more then 20 minutes, I find myself here either bidding or reading the forums (don't tell the wife 😉

I've found that not only can you get great deals here; the wealth of information found in the forum section is indispensable. A HUGE thanks you for the later.

Now to my question. I've recently won a 5 pack of ACID Def Sea cigars. I knew the process used during the curing/aging of the tobacco but didn't realize the Def Sea would have such a strong aroma, all be it a beautiful one! I don't want to keep it in either of my two humidors and didn’t know exactly what to do. I currently have it in its cellophane wrapped box in the meat drawer (high humidity) of the refrigerator. The power save feature is currently enabled (no dehumidification) so the humidity shouldn't be a problem for the short term. What do I do now? Do I have to buy another humidor for this kind of cigar for long-term storage? I think I already know the answer but I figured I'd ask here before trying to sell the idea to my wife!

Thanks

Small size humi-pouches can be found cheap on the net and are a good short term solution if you are going to smoke them in the next few months. Or get some 50-50 solution and a sponge and a small airtight container. More solutions will surely follow shortly. Welcome aboard.

[1]Think of buying a small, travel style humidor to "isolate" these fragrant stix
[2]Go 4 broke & buy a full size box [better to store more of the smokes in question]
[3]Improvise a mini-cooledor. If you have one of those smallish, sorta bigger than a lunchbox size -- but not by much -- coolers, put in a humidification stabilization device, voila! Should do the job, not break the budget & unlike a wooden box, wouldn't readily absorb the smell
Also other similar ideas [the acyrilic sealing jar, a glass sealed jar, a small tupperdor] these may not be as stable for temperature as the mini-coolerador, but might just fit the bill

Welcom to the madness. I haven't had a problem storing Acids in either of my humis. Of course, they usually aren't there too long as they get smoked pretty quickly. I do, however, keep them separated in a ziplock pouch within the humi. If I were keeping them for longer periods of time (more than a couple of months), I would probably separate them more.

Yellow,
I don't think the fridge is a good idea at all. I'm not sure what the power save feature does, but it doesn't keep cold air inside from drying out cigars. That's just the way it is. I just checked, and my veggie bin is currently at 38% (way below anthing recommended).

In this "emergency", you're better off with a large ziplock bag or small tupperware, with a small dish of wet salt to produce 75% RH. (Yes, too high, but better than the fridge.)

Long term solution: follow the advice above regarding 50/50, sponge, tupperware, etc.

keep acids out of humidors even if they are triple wrapped. usually it's safe, but if you are unlucky you have an acid humidor forever. the aroma, smell, or whatever you want to call it can stay in the wood.

put it in a zip lock and if you smoke them i a few weeks, they aren't going to dry out enough to worry about.

acids are funny cigars. most people seem to like them for a while and then lose interest.

sort of like some girl you date for a few weeks until the novelty wears off.

Yo YD998: First buy a 300 ct. humidor... Second fill it with real cigars ( Padron, Ashton VSGs, CAOs, etc. etc. ) Third and this is the most important, trash the acids. JonR

Those acrylic cigar jars are kinda inexpensive.

Any canning jar is fine. Put in a couple of pieces of Spanish cedar, wiped with some distilled water. It'll work fine short term.

I wouldn't buy a special humidor for Acid and Lars Tetens. After a few months, you'll wonder why you smoked them.

A friend gave me an Acid at a herf last night.......

I just keep it in a zipper bag, in a tupperware with a small piece of wet florist foam charged with 50/50

Get yourself a large Fuente Humi-bag and you are set for 6 months. Most of your cigar shops carry them or you can get them online.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. This is the first time I ever smoked an ACID and can say
well it wasn’t a bad smoke. Just different. Defiantly not something I would smoke on a regular basis. This seems to be a cigar for the person who doesn’t smoke cigars, if that makes sense. The construction was a bit lacking. The wrapper started to peal about half way through, starting at the foot. I also noted several very solid veins, which caused a bit of a run. I’ll have to “share” the remaining 4 with some friends. In the mean time, I have them in a Tupperware container with a small sponge moistened with 50/50 PG/distilled water. Not touching of course.

My wife has shown interest in sharing the smoking experience with me. I know she wouldn’t enjoy a Padron 1964 (gasp!) but would prefer the taste of a flavored smoke. Has anyone heard anything about the C.A.O flavored cigars? I was thinking of getting a small tin of these for her to try.
