Here is the latest pic of my trial run of “growing my own tobacco”, that will eventually become homemade cigars.
It’s still much too early to plant outdoors, so I may actually lose these beauties because they are growing so fast and I do not have a place to keep them indoors. Hoping for an early spring.

I tried to grow my own a couple of years ago. They grew extremely fast, but when I transplanted them due to their size they did not survive the move. I don't know what happen as I have gardened for decades.

Did you get the How to Roll Your Own Cigars video?
I have seen kits that come with a video, knive and all the necessities required to roll at home.

I have been surfing the net and found some info and techniques to produce a few homemade cigars. I have seen those kits and found them to be expensive. I will have to make do with what I can find or purchase at a reasonable cost. I am sure I will be able to produce something worthwhile, if not just for fun.

None of them show you the peculiarities of rolling a perfecto though. grumblegrumblegrumble

Showing them the La Perla Habana and saying, in a soothing voice, "Dream big. When you grow up you could be just like this fine cigar" is a nice touch.

Way to go W! Hopefully you won't lose them, but I have always heard they grow like mad. How long before it will stay warm in your area?

Planting outdoors still will not be till after April, have to wait till after the last frost. Then the end of the growing season will be about September or October. Must have crop in before the first frost.

I hear ya. I am actually growing a coffee tree in my house. I 'll post a pic soon. Keep up the good work. The cigar next to the leaf gives a good idea just how big the plant is.

i've got a plastic rose around here somewhere. i guess i could melt it down and make a plastic cigar out of that! lol
