Is it ok to put cigars contained in Otter Boxes in your checked baggage. I know they will survive the beating, but do those new X-Ray machines cause them to dry out???

I don't think x-rays would hurt cigars. They x-ray your teeth at the dentist?

Appreciate the info. I figured it was a dumb question, but they just jacked up the power on the machines, and it fried a mess of my film in a lead bag.

Your smokes will be fine. All checked baggage is searched. They will open your otterbox. I don't think they look at the cigars too close though.

remember the pressure change and that you may have trouble opening the box when you try to get a cigar.

I've shipped a bunch in an Otter Box in checked baggage without any problems except maybe impotence and sterility.

Actually the increased amount of X-rays causes the cigars to become radioactive. ISOMs appear to be particularly susceptible to this problem because of the the soil and environmental characteristics they're grown in. There have been an increasing number of unconfirmed reports of sterility, impotence, hair loss, a rare form of dementia, etc., associated with smoking these. Because of my concerns, I've managed to obtain a license from the Federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission to dispose of these in accordance with their guidelines. So if you have any hesitation about smoking ISOMs that have passed through checked baggage, send them to me and I will dispose of them at absolutely no charge.........Please be advised that I only post this information as a Public Service to you.

I travel with cigars in otter boxes frequently, my only problem has been not having room to take enough with me. But now I have a 3rd otter box (15 capacity) so I can survive most trips

I travel all the time with my otterbox in checked baggage. I'm able to put my good cutter in the box also. Never had any problem at all. I sometimes have to use a little extra elbow grease to get the dang thing open after a flight but so far, no big deal.

Just got back from Vegas. What I did was take my 25 count otterbox into the cabin as part of my carry on baggage. The security people didn't even open it. Don't take any kind of torch lighter though, even in checked baggage it may be confiscated and destroyed.

Also, the pressure valve on the otterbox helped when it came to opening the box.

I always carry mine on when I travel. The screeners never open it so I don't have to worry about my sticks getting damaged.

Also, I had a hell of a time opening the damn thing after I landed due to the pressure changes.

Arwings,
What is your e-mail so I can ship you all of my premium sticks that have been X-Rayed. This info has me deeply concerned and since you are a licensed specialist in disposing of my cigars, I have some Premiums that need disposing. I don't have much hair left and I want to keep what little I have.

If anything it might knock the cigar beetles for a loop.

BTW, if you check an otterbox/cigarcaddy without a relief valve, be prepared for quite a struggle to get your box opened. The decreased air pressure in the unpressurized baggage hold is going to seal it tightly shut. Thought I'd never get mine opened. It will eventually come apart with a "whoosh" like something that has been vacuum sealed. Watch out for fingernails, in particular...........
