I need some help trying to figure out a better way. Right now, I have 2 coolerdors and 1 sweaterdor. I buy mostly 5-packs, and would like to store them seperately so I don't have to paw through the boxes all the time looking around and maybe damage them.
I also have some of those Rubbermaid meal containers that sell for a couple bucks at Walmart. Very nice, but I don't want to get a ton of those just so things are organised. All I want to do is keep all my 5-packs together so I can open the lid and not have anything buried, if possible.

I had the same problem as I don't really buy boxes. I'm installing shelves and using trays in all my humi's and cooler. And then stack vertically. Also, I try to plan far in advance with some sticks keeping cello on in the humidor that I grab from (and dig from) alot and those for aging w/ cello off in a humi that doesn't get touched much. I'm sure anal tony has figured out the best way to deal with this...

No unfortunately I have not. My humidors and sweater boxes and coolers are a complete mess. I constantly have to search each one when looking for a particular gar that I just know I have. I buy both boxes and singles which makes it even worse. Every storage container I have has at least one box in it along with singles.

So I am interested in how others are organized.

Well, I went to my local lumber place, bought some planks of spanish cedar and built some stackable trays. They have seperation spacers on the bottom to allow air circulation. I got a label machine from work, and labeled each tray either by brand, or wrappers, country of origin...etc. They are all neat and tidy in my coolerdor.

Ok.....that is what I want to do, though I'm pretty much with Tony right now.....they just all freakin over the place and I have to dig every time. But I will do the above someday soon!

I try and stay out of my coolidors as much as possible. Just about everything I have in mine are in boxes (even loose singles). When a box is in tack it is easy to identify. In the boxes I keep loose singles I write on masking tape the contents and tape it to the box for ease of identification.

I have two large desk humidors for premiums and ISOMs and periodically I will go through my coolidor and stock my humidor with cigars of this type. When it comes to dailys I have a 15 count otter box which I will fill once a week and just carry it around in my truck.

By doing this when/if I do have to go through my coolidors I pretty much do it only once then leave them alone for awhile.

Here is the concept I used to get organized. Take all your 5-packs and group them together on a table. Take 2 or 3 of each cigar and put them into one box where you will have easy access to them. Take the remaining ones and put them into another box for longer term storage. I keep one or two of each cigar within easy reach and restock from the long-term storage as necessary.

Some sort of shelving system is important if you want to easily dig through the layers of cigars.

I separate maddies from naturals, but thats about as far as I go there. I'm a cello-on guy to keep the cigars from getting damaged when I want to move them around.

I think people's initial desire is to have every single like kind cigar next to each other. I dont do this anymore. I organize for convenience and ease of finding a cigar quickly. Smoke now v/s smoke later.

You people are anal. All I do is put all my cigars in cedar cigar boxes by size and shape, date purchased, price paid, and, when available box code date, then make a list of how many of what vitola are in each box and which coolerdor on an Excel spreadsheet and sort it by both cigar brand and size, cigar box (all different, e.g., Padron 3000 box, VSG Enchantment box, FFOX xXx box, etc.) and coolerdor. Humidor contents are on a separate spreadsheet. Why make things complicated?

LLT: What, you don't keep the roller's name and moon phase in your spreadsheet?

If you've seen pictures of my cabinet you can tell I don't organize much. I just stack in the boxes, bundles and loose sticks as I get them. Sometimes I find some really good stuff that I've hidden from myself and discovery much later.

I'll tell you guys what i tell everyone else 😛
I organize my cigars into two groups.

1. Give to friends
2. Hide from friends.

legendarywilly, thanks, I didn't know it's actually a storage for storing sweathers (like Sterilite, or those clearview boxes). I wouldn't use these as storage, because they aren't air tight (like coolers), and the air exchange rate is so great, that the cigars might be damaged this way. Even if they're in ziplock type bags, the humidity isn't kept constantly at this rate......

I use empty boxes from purchases to store my cigars in the coolers, and use ziplock type bags to hold the loose singles (if I cannot fit them in the boxes). I have 5 humi's, 4 are to keep the premium singles, and 1 humi for a drybox. I only smoke from my drybox, because the cigars wouldn't be plugged that way.

In addition to the coolers, I'm currently compiling an excel file, containing worksheets of different brands, and their location, so I'll know where to get what cigar. I usually smoke the ones that have been aged for a year, and let the rest nap until the 1-yr age is up. 😛

I dunno either. I really did do an Excel spreadsheet once & listed all brands in my collection alphabetically & by ring gauge & length. Had over 150 different brands or sizes. I gave up on it. At one time I used to string together, date & label little bundles of 4 or 5 cigars, but gave up on that too. Now I just try to ween out the dog rockets once in awhile. There's a local bar that takes bags of 50 off my hands at cut rate prices.
