I just bought a new humidor.. my first. I followed all the directions, but it still dried out my cigars. Then I went back and repeated all the procedures such as wiping down the walls with a 50/50 solution, re-calibrating my hygrometer, etc. Now it is running so humid that I have taken out the humidifier and it's still over 80%. Is there anything I can do to settle this down?

Wiping down the walls with PG solution?!?

... that may have something to do with it, and something that should never be done ...

Leave the lid open for a while so that it can dry out a little.

ditto on both. I wiped both of my humidors down once with distilled water, put the sponge w/distilled water on a plastic bag in the humi, closed it and then let it sit for 3 days. Charged the credo with PG, it hit 70, waited for one more day, still held at 70 and then I knew it was good to go. If you have gars in it, take them out and put them in a cooler/tupper/sweaterdor. Leave the lid open and air that puppy out. Did you calibrate the hygrometer w/ the salt test? I've found it to be a more accurate test than the damp washcloth

i read where it was suggested to wipe down walls to break in a new humi?

then again, i also read the direction in my new one (YEAH I KNOW) and it says NEVER do that as it may wreck the wood and the humi!

which is true? I have done both

Manufacturers have always said to not wipe them down.

That is not true. Tampa Humidor sends a statement with the one that I bought to wipe them down. I have dried it out all day and it is running about 72% with no humidifiers in there (closed). Please tell me I haven't ruined it?

After you let it dry (open) for a couple of days, wipe the interior with distilled water only and fill your credo with 50/50 but don't saturate it so it can absorb excess moisture.
