When I first started cigars a few years ago, I was in a local and picked up a Hoja Yellow Band maduro. It was unusual in that it was a diadema shape (sort of a lopsided perfecto), but very small (approx 41/2" by 30/42 ring). I remembered it as being pretty good. I recently went back to this shop and they still had a few (stock moves pretty slow in 140% Washington). I tried another, and thought it was great! It had an even burn that was surprisingly long considering the size. As aged as it was the flavor notes were blended and indistinct, but I came away with hints of brown sugar and old ceder, with prominance shifting through the entire cigar. It even packed a zing (didn't make me swoon like the first one though). The thing just hit on all cylinders. I would love to get more of these. The problem being that there are precious few left in the box, and the price of 6 bucks a pop! I've never been able to find any info on these (or the related Hoja Perfecto, and 1965{?} lines). Are (were) these made by Edward Nikka? I've not been able to find out if they are discontinued or just not generally available over the net.

I did a 'Google' search using 'Hoja yellow band' ... and came up with several sites that 'may' still have bundles and boxes of these, at least they claim to have them ...

... the ones I really liked were rolled in the Tabacalera Tambor factory in Costa Rica, home of Tony Borhani´s Bahia. The line was introduced in 1995 and within four years it became one of the most desirable cigars in the U.S.

But, my favorite was the Hoja XXO by Tony Borhani. These were discontinued, and are extremely hard to find. They were produced at Tabacalera Tambor of Costa Rica, and at one time, was jointly-owned by "Don" Douglas Puerenger and Tony Borhani, president of Tony Borhani Cigars.

Thanks everybody for the quick responses. It's really great to just throw something out there, and have a bunch of folks rush in to help.

Slim, the ones at my local are in a cardstock box/bundle. Not a real box, but not all smooshed.

I love those Yellow band. They are nice cigars and the first to aim for the lower price point.

When I see them at the store, I always buy some.
