Hi Everyone:

To those who are losing faith or who have lost faith in the war effort, please read the following story:
"This picture of the statue was made by an Iraqi artist named Kalat, who for years was forced by Saddam Hussein to make the many hundreds of bronze busts of Saddam that dotted Baghdad. This artist was so grateful that the Americans liberated his country, he melted 3 of the fallen Saddam heads and made a memorial statue dedicated to the American soldiers and their fallen comrades. Kalat worked on this night and day for several months. To the left of the kneeling soldier is a small Iraqi girl giving the soldier comfort as he mourns the loss of his comrade in arms. It is currently on display outside the palace that is now home to the 4th Infantry division. It will eventually be shipped and shown at the memorial museum in Fort Hood, Texas." Even though no posts occur I still affirm I am correct!
Fritz
PS I also believe we all know that the WMDs are mostly now in Syria and even Iran.

Nope. And, this will become increasingly more apparent as time goes on.

What's that Sonny? That you believe the terrorists are correct in what they're doing?

Sometimes doing the right thing isn't the popular thing. Having the resolve to take it to an enemy's home turf and "work it out" is a lot better than them hijacking more planes and crashing them into super-structures.

Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11........I am NOT talking about Afganistan......pay attention!

Saddam was a terrorist and harbored 2 of the world's most notorious terrorists. Saddam and his sons could be classified as WMD.

Saddam has sponsered terrorism on MANY fronts.

Try to keep up Sparky.

It was worth it. It may take years to see the effects of establishing a democracy, but it will eventually pay dividends. I am just afraid that when it does, no credit will be given where credit is due... GWB had the cajones to do what everyone said he shouldn't because he believed it was the right thing to do. I applaud him for it.

Yo Sonny:.." Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11". You are correct sir and let me add Germany had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor. JonR

Sonny, do you believe D-Day was a mistake? That's a valid question given the scenarios. Not intended to be a smack, I'm sincerely interested in your opinion. Also, should we have gone to Bozina? Kosavo?(sp) Haiti? Moreover, please name for me, in your opinion, the valid conflicts in the last century which you believe we had every right to be involved with? Or is it that you simply think war is wrong "regardless" and never justified?

JonR/Robby; there is no connection between your pearl harbor comment and the current situation. We were not at war with Germany because of Pearl Harbor, there were other obvious reasons. So, I would say, "not a good point" in response to the pearl harbor comment.

While it may be good to have Saddam out of the picture, the post-war effort is incompetent.

Obviously Bush was more interested in destroying Saddam and occupying Iraq, than he was in creating a democracy.

Thank you JonR, I await, but do NOT expect a response... This is the liberal mind set, blah blah blah period. Then when confronted with "logic", they tuck tail and run. I'll bet she sqats to pee too... My other question remains unaddressed. If this war is unjust, what wars in the last century were justified? And why?

The worlds largest terrorist training camp was destroyed in Iraq, near the Iranian border, at the beginning of the war. It wasn't setting there idle either. It was very very busy. SF and the Kurds took it out.

Saddam was paying big bucks to the families of Palestinian Suicide bombers who murdered innocent civilians in Israel.

Was it justified? You better damn well believe it was. This is the same friggin debate we would have been having if we had taken out Afghanistan BEFORE 9/11. Of course there would possibly still be twin towers in NYC also.

Liberals aren't happy unless they are wringing their limp wrists about something which is their right to do in a free society. But it's also MY right to disagree with their pissing and moaning.

The best DEFENCE is a good OFFENCE.

JonR, First, surely you are not trying to draw a parallel between our current situation and WWII... It just seemed to me that the differences (many of them) are obvious), but I can name a couple that stand out right away. While Pearl Harbor may have been the last straw that drew us into the war, in the meantime, Germany was pounding our allies in Europe and was invading other countries there, compromising world security. This cannot be compared to Iraqs invasion of Kuwait (which by the way, was over 10 years ago). You could try to draw an analogy that equates Iraq with terrorism and terrorism to the new threat to world security. However, you cannot compare the objective clarity with which we went into WWII, and the guesswork (putting it kindly, giving Bush the benefit of the doubt) that goes into a decision to invade Iraq today.

My main point is directed to the title of this thread. It is not clear to me that the price paid here is worth what we have gained. It is easy to sit back and say, it was worth it, but I wonder how the families of the dead feel about it.

How do the families of the dead of any war feel about it?

Drop the WWII bs! The analogy was made out of the folly that certain people can't see the forest for the trees.

This is a war against TERRORISM, not against Afghanistan, Iraq or whatever country you want to put in the blank...it's against whoever is sponsering it in the world today!

If you can't see why the Germany/Japan reference was made then I can see why you have a hard time thinking this is about spreading democracy! It's about ridding the planet of scum.

The only reason why we entered WWII was because of Pearl Harbor. The war was raging in Europe while we watched on the sidelines. The Axis treaty cemented in the deal with Germany,Italy and Japan.

Once the Japanese struck us on our soil the only response was us entering the fray. The same is said of terrorism. Israel,England,Ireland, most of Africa and certain parts of Southeast Asia have been dealing with terrorism on a daily basis for decades. Only when America faces it with a true leader without regard for public opinion or popular polls does she answer for the acts of the Kohbar Towers, our embassies, our naval vessels, our jet fighters and the men and women stationed around the globe today that are wearing a military uniform. When was enough enough? When the WTC and the Pentagon were seen as smoldering rubble! The White House, The Capitol bldg, and a 2nd wave of jetliner attacks were thwarted due to the action of the President. Still can't see the similarities?
