Ok, I am not asking where to buy them or for any sources.

But what would be an average going price for one stick, say a Perfection X No. 2 or Robusto?

I ask because I was quoted a price at a cigar store and since I am unclear what they usually go for, I passed. And is it usual for them to limit them to one per customer?

Understand that this store is 100 miles away, so it isn't like I can drop by there anytime, so I was thinking if the price was comparable to what they usually go for, or better, I may consider picking one up.

Also, are they really that good? Or is it all hype?

Thanks again,

Tony

at one of my locals there is a limit of two for all Fuente cigars other than curlyheads, so I would think that it is normal. As for the price on Opus X, I wouldn't know, my wife won't let me near that kind of stuff it would be dangerous for our relationship

Best advice to give is to do an internet search. Find the best price you can IN STOCK (I could charge 12 bucks a stick if I never had them) calculate the shipping and then decide if its worth the 3 hour drive to go get a couple of FFOXs

The problem with searching the internet is that the range is so severe, it is hard to tell what is the norm.

As for the drive, I only stop there when I am going to the city for other things. So it would never be a drive just for a couple cigars. Although, it would be a goo excuse. LOL!

It's the vendors call. I saw the Robusto for $11 when I lived in Florida, and here at a local in MD they sell em for $13. Hope that gives you some idea. Don't know about the other sizes though. As far as limit, absolutely. I have yet to find a local shop that does not limt the purchase amount. Now, I have seen 2 per hour, and 2 per visit. What's a visit. If I walk the strip and come back, is that a separate visit? Good luck. Still waiting on my local to get some in.

I've got a humi full of them - almost all sizes and a wide range of prices. I pick them up when I travel wherever I find them. Average price range? I've never found one under $10. I've seen them as high as $100 in Vegas (FAT CHANCE!). I consider finding them a challenge, like a scavenger hunt in the cities I visit. You should be able to pick up the smaller sizes for around $12 and the larger ones for no more than $20. Outside that range you're definitely being gouged. They're my favorites and I turned down the large Torpedo at $30 (already had 9 of them in the humi). Good luck!

Rico,

Thanks!

That gives me a good area to work with.

I figure this is one cigar I need to at least try once, but don't want to spend a fortune on it. LOL!

I guess I am a cheapy. When the price of a cigar I haven't tried is above $10, I have a hard time buying it. 🙂

Instead of driving a 100 miles, why not trade for a couple?

mrtelcom,

I would, but I don't want to insult anyone.

To be honest, I am just now getting my new humidor back with some cigars.

After losing my humidor and all my favorites, I am left with some mediocre cigars. So to try and trade with what I currently have would be insulting to anyone.

Once I get some decent cigars built back up, then I can consider trading.

My local shop has them and sells them with no limit. The Fuente Fuente (my favorite) is selling for $13. When I asked him recently if he knew where I could get them, he walked me to the back room. Of course, he doesn't keep them out for anyone to by, but he has boxes of all sizes. He explained to me that the supply/demand problem has pretty much corrected itself in recent history and they are not truly that hard to come by. I would get to know your local shop owner and then ask the question if he can sell them to you.

LOL!

We were doing some remodeling and the humidor was set on the trunk of the car in the garage so it didn't get broken. My wife drove off and the humidor and its entire contents came off the car when she came out of the drive and ended up in the ditch by the road.

It didn't help that it was pouring rain and everything ended up in a water filled ditch.

3 cigars were salvageable. The drawer and top glass were destroyed and the remainder of the humidor was in pieces.

We gave it a proper burial. They burn quite nicely. LOL!

All I could say when I looked outside as it slid off was "Yep, that figures." LOL!

It had been one of those times when everything that could go wrong, did.

I should have known better.

I'm finally getting things built back up. The gurkha super-sampler will help alot. LOL!

cockyhoskins,

My "local" shopkeeper is 100 miles away.

Although there are a couple small tobacco places 60 miles away.

So getting to know them would take some doing. LOL!

Oh man. That story made me cringe. Unfortunately I know how it feels to loose a stash too. If you want drop me a line and I'll send you an Opus before you drop a lot of cash.

Thanks guys,

I e-mailed you.

EvilJAR, I e-mailed you what I have that is even remotely decent to trade.

Russell,

I would need to know what you like to repay you when I get things squared away.

Maybe this will kick start my luck again. LOL!

God knows this year my luck ran away. LOL!

Maybe it's just me, but I've tried about ten of these and think they're way overrated. Fuente though is a marketing genius on how he is able to create demand through scarcity. Personally of Fuente line I like the sungrown wrappers.
