Hey all----I'm up in MN, so the humidity (right now...) is REALLY low. This means that I've got one rectangle and 3 standard circular humidfiers (new humidor---old one was the same). However, I've noticed (this keeps it at 70%) that if I take the hydrometer and put it at the bottom of the Humidor it shows at about 60% rather than 70%...normal?

also--what do people use, distiled or 50/50???

Thanks all

50/50 once a year and fill with distilled as necessary - just the opposite here. I had to remove all my humidifiers and it stays at 68%.

Colorado is extremely dry, so I always use nothing but distilled.

I live in upstate NY and during the Fall,Winter and spring I use 100% distilled. I like to keep my Humi at about 73% thats just my personal taste. During the summer its a different story. I take out the humi device and leave it alone. It seems our hum level in USNY never goes bellow 70%. I never measured the hum level at the bottom of my Humi.Just figured that in a confined space like that if its 70 at the top its 70 at the bottom. Maybe your box dosn't seal that good so the moisture is escaping.

Houston humidity is on the climb and I'm about to up the PG to distilled water ratio. I've added some cedar strips to my humidors but the humidity has still been on the climb the past few days. My cuban stashed went from 62% to 68%, non cubans climbed to 73%. Usually when this happens I go to a 60/40 mix and things settle down.
