Hello my name is Steve. I am a 34 year old Happily Married Disabled Veteran and Father of a 13 year old daughter. I am new to the forum part of this board and look forward to learning from the other members to help me avoid making costly mistakes. I spend 20-50 hours per week online to pass the time while my wife is working and my daughter is in school. My younger brother who is 23 turned me onto smoking hand rolled again about 6 months ago when he gave me a Punch Double Corona, and a Indian Tobacco Shop on the Salamanca Indian Reservation Steamburg NY( Steamburg and Salamanca are both less than 45 minutes away) gave me a Macanudo on their customer appreciation day in August 2003. I have to admit the punch was way better than the Macanudo. These were the first hand rolled cigars I have smoked in almost 7 years since I left the Army in February 6th 1996. I live within 35 miles of the Zippo Factory in Bradford PA (www.zippo.com), if you have never been there before I recommend you take a free tour of the Zippo Factory it\'s worth the time. Afterwards check out their store for some great prices on closeout lighters and other things zippo makes. I have lived in Warren PA since 2000 when my wife and I first met, it is a nice small city with a lot of good fishing, hunting, hiking, and outdoor activity in the Allegheny National Forest 5 minutes away. Summer time there are 30-100+ different yard sales every weekend to go to. I try to hit them all as early and as fast as I can because I love to haggle for a good deal. My wife says I am addicted to haggling. I am interested in Cigars, Hunting, Fishing, Video games, Movies, Paintball, and Estate Sales. My favorite hand rolled cigars out of all of my cigars are: Indian Tabac, Oliva Segundos, Camacho Seconds, Torano, CAO, AVO, Puros Indios, & Drew Industrial Press. I really enjoy a good strong cigar. I am happy to have found the forum part of this board and look forward to future buys and trades.

I have a cedar chestodor(inside dimensions 14" x 14" x 40" with 65% Climax Beads, Thermometer, Hygrometer, and 6 storage racks all for under $150), a coolerdor with 70% - 72% Humidifier Jelly, 2 fifty count desktops, 4 or 4 large Rubbermaid Tupperdors with cedar and JR Humicards inside(12" x 12" x 5") and who knows maybe another coolerdor on the way?

Thom - I derive my name from being a video game lover. I love the PS2, DC, and Xbox games in that order and have enjoyed many winter days in PA playing video games. PS my favorites for each is:

Xbox - Dragon's Lair (just like the original arcade game but better)

madurotom - coolerdors are definitely the way to go for less than $100 but if you can afford up $150 and have these stores (Big Lots & Wal-Mart) in your area I'll let you know where to purchase everything you need too have a Cedar Chestodor like mine that looks great in any room. Anyone interested in making your own Cedar Chestodor like mine please email me at gamelover at kinzua dot net and I can give you the build details, shopping list, and any online help you might need.

So, to get you legal - did you want to start trading? Assuming you're a cigar 'vet' (most newbies don't have 1000 sticks worth of storage) we could use some help on the newbie trades...I guess we could take Jay's word on your character, but we don't even really trust his character much...

mrtelcom - The main reason why they say not to use anything but Spanish Cedar is because of the aroma.
Go to your local Big Lots Furniture Department and check out the $100 cedar chest they sell like I did, upon opening it and smelling the inside it smelled less like cedar than any cigar boxes or cedar wrapped cigars I have. So I decided to buy it and try it. I didn't even put a cigar into it for the first 16 days after it was built, because of sealing the seams & getting the humidity beads inside for 12 days to check humidity every other day. Well over 2 months later and it still has less of a cedar aroma than cedar cigar boxes and cedar wrapped cigars.

al'Thor - I have heard of Mahogany, Walnut, and even American Cedar lining on humidors. The main factors I keep hearing about on lining is the better it was kiln dried the less chance of sap being a problem, the thinner it is in thickness also the less chance of sap problems, and to avoid cedar with any strong smell. I had my Chestodor up to constant 65% humidity for 12 days before even considering placing my cigars inside, one thing about this lining and the sealing on the seams was when I placed the beads inside I expected to have to be ready to add water to get the humidity stabilized at 65% well after 12 days it started at 67% and leveled off after the first week to 65% and held there for almost 5 weeks before I had to moisten the beads. So I think this is a good storage solution for anyone wanting storage for a large number of cigars and be able to display it predominantly in their home. Also it was not only wife approved but she bought it for me 🙂
