When I started smoking cigars I bought alot of Punch/HDM rothchilds (inexpensive and tasty). Just fired up my first Punch Roth. maddie in a long time. Man..I forgot what a wonderful thing these things are. In an age of boutique smokes and fancy packaging/marketing, it was nice to return to some old school roots. Even downed a couple of Schaefer beers toi heighten the experiance. Sorry to get all misty eyed but it was a beautiful thing.

I remember Schaefer. You'd send in the buddy that looked alomost old enough with five dollars and a coupon, and he'd come out with a case of it with change. I'm the same way with the Super Premium Seconds. They just do their job, every time.

I've always be kind of partial to the Hoyo #50 maduro myself, and have some with a couple years of age.

Been a long time since I had visited this one.

I also just picked up the Punch crystal jar combo, yum.

I think that the old stand-bys are often overshadowed by the new glitzier-whiz-bang-edicion-limitada-reserve-cabinet-viejo-anejo-especiale-anniversario-gold-box pressed-vintage-corojo-criollos.

Your basic R&J, Hoyos, Punch, LGC, Fuentes, Partagas; etc, are some fine cigars. There's a reason that they are the "standards."

Funny, but since you mentioned it, I decided to fire up a couple of old friends. My El Rey humidor has a perfect spot for the HDM and Punch Rothchilds. I filled those spots when I bought that humidor about 4 years ago. I never touched them since then.

So, yesterday, I had an HDM Maddie Rothchild for breakfast and a Punch maddie Rothchild for my drive home. WOW, four years does make a difference. They were fantastic. I will probably finish the rest and start bidding on more to replace them and then wait 4 years again.
