I am a long time lurker and thought I would post my first topic. I am looking to get my father in law some cigars from cigarbid and wold like some suggestions. He usual just smokes Phillie Titans but I would like to get him something different. I would want to stick with something mild. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

how much are you willing to spend?

I would receommend something in the line of a Torano natural cigar like the siganture selection robusto. I know I'm probably going to get killed for this but maybe a box of Macanudo's would serve as well. They are good quality and won't offend. Most here don't like them, but if your father smokes phillies then I doubt he'll know the difference.

If you're looking for something cheaper you might try the Don Tomas or Astral line. Both lines are exceptionally mild (the Astral in particular is way too mild) but they're inexpensive and o.k. for a beginner.

I would recommend CAO Black, it's a great smoke, very smooth, not too strong, not too expensive, high marks all the way around.

BTW, welcome aboard bbmb1097!!

5 Vegas

Just won my father a box of panatellas for $25.00

Good mellow tasty smoke at a reasonable price. He was a dog rocket smoker until I gave him that first 5 Veags.

Does he have a humidor? If not get him one and put an assortment in it. You could even do some trading on the trade board for an assortment and let him try more than one type.

if you want mild try Oro Cubano. very inexpensive and my wife loves them. also a Viejo 98 Puros Indios seem to be mild to medium bodies and a very easy draw. when i first got my Humi 2 months ago i got 50 Oro Cubano's for 40.00. i use them as quick after lunch smokes or just an everyday burn.

funny story though: i was in a bar and a drunk was sitting at the other end and the bartender had taken his keys til he sobered up or got a cab. he sees me and my friend smoking and asks if he can buy a cigar off me. so i sell him my 80cent Oro Cubano for 5 bucks. he thought he got such a deal he bought me and my friend a drink. my buddy asks me how do you feel basicly ripping that guy for 13 bucks in money and booze for and 80 cent cigar. answer: i feel pretty damn good.

That's not how it went at all. You and your pals kicked the crap out of me, took my money and stuck that turd in my mouth, last thing I remember before passing out from the beating was you guys laughing your butts off. Now I know who it was! Damn kids, no respect.

CAO black is one of my favorites. I handed a few out to a couple of guys at work - they loved the Brazilia and LPH Blacks I gave them. Well the CAO Black pretty much kicked thier butts big time. One went home to aly down the others had to quit drinking. I would not consider them to be a mild stick but very smooth.

Oh to answer your post, you have some good suggestions the mac, vegas 5, Ashton(aged maduro is great) - Maybe a CAO Brazilia or Gold, Torano any of them, I think the AF nats and SG are mild and have good flavor or maybe a Padron maddie.

I appreciate the responses. Now I just have to make a decision. Considering what he smokes now, anything will be a treat. I just didn't want to get him anything too heavy. Thanks again.

All have good ideas mentioned above. Go to Samplers and you can get him one of the Smiley Face Humis + Cigars. Heck, if you have a good selection, get the humi, then give him cigars that you like. I'd say a selection is better than getting him one type. We all know everyones taste is different, so give him a selection.

I would highly recommend the CAO Maduro. It is one of my wife's favorites! Not too strong, a GREAT flavor profile to them, and can be had at a good price.

I would also suggest any of the Arturo Fuente Hemmingways, Torano is also a good buy and good cigar.

Enjoy!

I'd definitely recommend checking out the sampler page. I know that before I really started stockpiling cigars, I really enjoyed getting samplers for Father's Day, Christmas, etc. It was fun trying new cigars or those that were normally beyond my means. You might try something like the 90+ rated sampler or a couple different All-Star samplers. Maybe in trying some new things, the lucky recipient will be motivated to expand his horizons a bit.

There are lots of things I could suggest, but not many mild ones. I usually go for medium to full bodied. I did think the CAO Cameroon was kinda mild, but very flavorful. The CT 1916 Cameroon is pretty good too...
