I'm turning my old garage fridge into a fridgador. Today I checked the RH and it's at 77% with nothing in it and it's raining today. last week when I got the idea I checked the RH and it was at 58%. If the weather is changing the RH that much inside my sealed fridge how do I controll the humidity. I put a large block of floral foam about half filled with PG solution and the RH has stayed at 77%. I need to bring it down but how? and if I do how do I maintain 65%. I've read that maybe a bag of rice can work. I thought of adding a stronger PG ratio but I cant find straight PG anywhere around here...all I have is 50/50.

Any help will be appreciated.

maybe so, but if you keep adding 50/50, you will start increasing the % of PG (it doesn't evaporate!) when the RH gets where ypu want it, begin recharging with pure distilled water!

I haven't used the Climaxx beads myself & must admit that I am intrigued, but you can get a pint of PG from your local pharmacy for about $7. The 1st time I had them order me a bottle the pharmacist looked at me suspiciously & asked what I wanted it for. I said a humectant for my humidor & asked him why he had asked. He said PG is highly toxic & animals will lap it right up. I guess some people poison cats, possoms, etc. with it.

Not yet...But I'm working on that now. I've located a local lumber guy but all he has is 5"x4' strips at $9.00 each. I'd like so find something wider than that that if I can.

Sli,

What Schmitty said! Use climmax 65% beads.

Thats what I use and so far so good.

Here is a link to my whole fridgadoor project. Hope it can help you out.

I use silica gel beads when the RH is to high. They mainly just absorb the excess moister and the climmax helps level things out. From time to time, I do have to dry out the climmax beads with a hair dryer. The hotter days, the fridgadoor runs more, which in turn produces more condensation. Just like your situation with it raining outside, the RH will climb.

Put plenty of spanish cedar in there too, it will help with RH swings, and take care of that stinky fridge smell.

Scott,

Take a look at my previous post:

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/forum/forum.cfm?action=list&forumID=1&messageDisplay=0000000022723

I did the same thing with a chest freezer (10 cubic feet) much bigger than the wine frig. I used a johnson controls temperature controller and a half pound of climmax beads. Works like a champ. Temp stays between 69 and 72 and RH between 64 and 74. RH will climb a little to 74 right after freezer kick in but within 30 minutes or so it drops back to 64-67.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice, I have alot of work to do. I found the Johnson temp controller on line. This is going to be fun. I'll post pics when it's complete.
