I just bought a new 100 count Humi. It's lined with Spanish Cedar. The Manufacturer suggests not wipping it down with ditilled water. Every other Humi I've owned it was suggested by the manufacturer to wipe it down with distilled water. So this leaves me to ask To Wipe or not To Wipe that is the????

Whew, you had me worried there for a minute.

i wiped it down and its been fine every since.

if you do not Wipe.. well Oh a humi...

as HD said I would wipe anyway.. this does not mean saturate it.. it means to evenly wring out a spunge and wipe it down a few times.. a good prep time IE as HD suggested shot glass in the center without cigars added and wiping it down at least twice and do this for about a week... you have a better chance of the regulation of your humi keeping better with the cigars later... I've always wiped them down (dampened) course I have a spray mist bottle I use now I just open the door to the humi and grab it.. while inside I do a mist here and there and everywhere I think one would be needed.. LOL

Good Luck

I think the conventional knowlege is NOT to wipe, but I'm a wiper regardless...

i wipe, but... not so much for the humidity factor (good seasoning time should do ya right), but to get any spanish cedar dust out of there.

i recommend using cheesecloth (picks up more dust), but if you're just in it to help with humidifying it, a sponge should be fun, as hog noted.

i'm sure you know this, but for anyone who doesn't -- ONLY wipe with distilled water if you choose to wipe it down. don't use any other kind of water, and for heaven's sake do NOT add PG to the wipe-down water. 🙂

Thanks for all the help. so I guess the verdict is to wipe. HD I did put a wet sponge on a plastic bag at the bottom. Should have done about the same as a shot glass. I'm also using a Diamond Crown large humidification system and the DC digital Hygrometer. Hopefully this thing is up to par come Fathers Day. I handed my order to my wife, Lets see how much she loves me?

And by the way... 100 count? You grossly underestimated the power of the leaf. Shoulda gone "Verona".

I went 25... then 150, then 250... been surfing the net looking for a temp and humidity controlled device.

I got it bad.
