Hi All,

I am going to convert an old chest into a humidor.

I just purchased some spanish cedar to line it.

My question is.. how should I affix the cedar to the chest? Can I glue it or should I use little screws?

I'm concerned about the glue affecting the puros that I will quickly add.

Thanks,

Will

Use Glue not screws... for suggestions on what kind of glue; do a search and you'll find a few threads on this topic. Good Luck with the coolidor.

Don't forget to use waterproof glue at that. You'll see that in your search.

Carpenters glue should work fine.

I bought a cheapie hot glue gun for 2 bux....some glue stix, and thats it.

Hot glue has no odor, and is very adhesive with plastic and wood.

As long as it is waterproof it will work.

Remember, what is humidity? Moisture!

Over a long period of time, the molecules in the non-waterproof glue will break down.

Good points, good points. One thing is for sure. You need to be careful. I was seeking a more secure fit one time, and I tried some rubber cement. MAN! Those people should be sued BIG TIME! Be careful...

Don't coat the boards with glue. Just spot glue them. You want to use as little as possible. Allows for some movement AND.....you might want to take 'em out some day. Use Tightbond wood glue.

Why no screws? Well, yeah corrosion. Because of the screws, movement of the wood might split the spanish cedar. I've tried 'em in smaller applications. It looks better without 'em. In fact I don't usually use ANY glue or fastener. In a big chest it's pretty much mandatory.
