First, what makes you think WL reads these boards? The guy that turned me on to this site never does. I know several people that buy on here, and never use or read the bulletin boards.
Second, If you had valued these cigars higher than he did, why didn't you place a higher autobid on them, then his thirty second prior to closing bid would have just raised your price. Bidding at the last second is a common practice on auction sites. it's called 'sniping' and is used when the practicioner feels that the price is close to the maximum he or she is willing to pay, and wants to see if he or she can win without getting into a 'bidding war' and driving the price up over retail "that'll teach him ta bid against ME!"
Third, everybody on this board is SOOOOOOOOO done with reading whinings about overbidders, sniping is a refreshing change of pace! Personally, I've sniped many a good deal. If something I didn't bother to place a bid on because I figured I couldn't afford it, but put a watch on it because I want to keep track of the prices paid for that item, and lo and behold at a few minutes before the close of bidding, it's still at the same price! Place a bid, and BANG! It's mine! You know what? it's happened to me too! And I know that there have been times that I've had a bid on something and thought I was going to get it cheap! At the last minute the price shoots up! someone wanted it for just a bit more than I had on it, but wasn't willing to go as high as I had already committed to. I wanted them worse. that's how it works! It's called an auction!
