When you light your cigar, which end do you usually light? The open end or the one with the "closed thingy" on the end? Or does it matter?

I used to light the little wooden tip - it took a little while but once I got it lit it gave off a very 'woody' finish - believe it or not, of course then someone kindly pointed out that the tip was supposed to go in my mouth - silly me...good thing too, because now I've upgraded to the plastic tips...

I think wood to plastic would be a downgrade.

Jeff,

I'd imagine that if he didn't know which end of his cigars to light....you wouldn't want his cigars

i always find lighting it in the middle makes it burn more even ! AND you can smoke from either end.

Just finished smoking the second half of a A.F. Churchill that I cut in half and tasted it from both ends. The flavor was very similar, except for the half with the foot, which allowed for extra air to come through . . . I couldn't taste any difference.

Soooooooooooo, in other words, light which ever end tickles your fancy. LOL!!!

On the off chance that this is a serious question:

The closed end has extra tobacco wrapped around it to keep it together in your mouth. So that's the end that you DON'T light. It needs to be cut or punched in order to draw thru. Biting the closed end off may look good in cowboy movies, but is frowned upon in the better circles where I expect you will be smoking. So get a cigar clipper or a cigar punch.

thanks for the help guys... as far as taking the cap off, wouldn't it act as sort of a filter if you just kept it on? Maybe I could just take a safety pin and punch a really small whole in the end if you're not supposed to just leave the whole thing closed.

Use a punch in the middle and light both ends.

So this was serious. Dude filter hell you won't get any friggin smoke that way. You gotta open that baby all the way up just like your - better not go there.

Anyway from you post I suggest a punch. I prefer to clip the gar to allow a full flow of the sweet smoke from my leave of the gods.
