I will be taking a vacation to Cancun/Cozumel at the end of July. Was wondering if anyone could suggest a good cigar shop at either of these locations.

Thanks,

Scott

Why risk it??? ... Bring your own.

You can always look for a LCDH...

I agree with bringing your own. There's a place in Cozumel right when you get off the ferry, right underneath Senor Frog's (or is it Carlos and Charlies??? I forget.) I bought 2 ISOM'S to bring upstairs. I am pretty sure they were fakes, and also because of the humidity and the way they were stored, they were impossible to smoke anyway.

I'll be in Cancun next week. I usually have 4 or 5 shops that I frequent every time I'm there. Post your e-mail addy and I'll give you a full report when I get back.

There is a LCDH in the Flamingo Plaza. However, the last couple of times I've been there, the cigars were crap. Spider webs on the boxes (no kidding), torn wrappers, etc. I hope they have improved things this year, but I'm not expecting much.

There is another shop I found last year that I was very impressed with. Cigars looked legit. Picked up a few Bolivars and they smoked perfectly. The store also had a cigar roller depending on when you go. I missed him last year by a few days. Cant remember the name of the store, but I'll let you know when I get back.

There is a shop near the bull fighting ring called Moctezuma, there is an old woman rolling the house brand (Moctezuma) in the shop. I would love to get some more of these, I enjoyed them. If you happen upon this place and could get contact info I would be greatful.

Thanks puskarich. If you post an update of your trip on this thread, that would be great. That way others will be able to see the info also.

Thanks to everyone for the help/advice.

Normally, it is not considered polite to post names of competing cigar stores on CigarBid's forums. I know the stores are located in another country, but I think it is a good gesture of respect. They are excellent hosts.

As a compromise, here is my e-mail addy. If anyone else will be taveling to the Cancun area in the future, give me a shout and I'll be happy to forward on the info to you. I'll have the info in a text file that I can foward on quickly.

I have been going to Cancun for about 10 years almost every year. There are several cigar shops in the new shopping mall in the tourist zone but you will pay dearly for a run of the mill non-cuban. Cubans are very expensive there. If you go downtown about every vendor will try to sell you "Cubans" but they are counterfeit. The"duty free" shop at the airport has authentic cubans but are expensive too and if you get busted bringing one back, Customs will act in a negative manner with you. All in all, I take my own, that way I know what I am getting. If you want to try a cuban while there, it might be worth the experience but buyer beware.

Went to Ixtapa last year, and Welfare really hit on something. Hit the Habanos dealer in the airport. The cigars are legit, the prices are higher, but you're getting quality to smoke on your trip. Hit the shop before you go through customs and as long as you have a receipt, you won't have a problem.

I won't even tell ya what to do with the ones you don't smoke in country.
