I recently won a leather cigar holer and when I used it the first time, I noticed a strong leather scent, (well obviously since it is leather). My question to those who have had a leather cigar holder is:

Does the leather scent blend into your cigars if in it all day? Will the leather scent tone down in time, and how long will it take? Is there anything I should do, except use it?

Thanks,

Knof

KNOF,

I used to use the leather holders before...

I also didn't like the fact that it left a strong leather scent on my wrappers...

As far as the cigar wrapper taking on the flavor or smell of the leather I am not really sure on a physics level what happens but in my mind all I smelled and tasted was the leather so who cared!!

I now use a cannister travel humidor that had a cedar lined interior and my cigars are all beautiful now when I pull them from my traveller...

I have a Colibri two stick case and I was worried about the smell, too. Then I thought there are a lot of cigars with leather flavors in them, so I just started using it. So far I have not really noticed any leather smell transfering to the cigars. The only thing I have found is that you have to be careful with some cigars with delicate wrappers (Tributes, for example). They can get damaged going in or out.

I had a really nice hard leather 3 finger case that was cedar lined & I didn't have that problem.

I say had because I caught the cat with my case one morning. He had been chewing on it for some time.

Yes. He is still alive, but looks really funny with no fur.

I have a three finger leather case, that doesn't exhibit any leather smell. But then I store it in the humi with all the cigars so that it's at the same humidity, and it's been in there for years. Also, I only put cello-d cigars in it, to provide another barrier against smells, damage, etc.

I have a 2 finger leather holder that imparts no leather smell or taste at all. Of course, since it was given to me by a 55 year old friend, and since it belonged to his *grandfather*, this thing could be called an antique. All the leather smell left years before I was born.

Problem is that it only holds up to about a 46 ring. They must have smoked thinner cigars in the early 20th century.

i use a leather case, i put those cedar wraps that come with some cigars in the "fingers" which helps both keeping the cigar from the leather smell and from being damaged

I think I have one of the best. It's a leather case, but it contains 2 aluminum tubes that hold my gars. The tubes have O-ring seals at the top, so they hold the humidity in the cigars for a long period of time. No nasty taste imparted on the cigars either. Also, the tubes are extremely durable - never had a wrapper damaged. I use this case a lot during my travels and on my motorcycle (Sturgis and Milwaukee runs). It's less than $40 and it's been worth it's weight in gold!
