Just wanted to post a pic of the package my wife and I put together to go out today. I am heading to the post office to see what the shipping cost will be...

It's a start. We hope to start sending these regularly. Thanks to Shmitty and Cavallo for providing information and inpiration for this project.

Well, the shipping for 44 lbs came out to $26 Priority, and ~$14 Standard. I opted for the Priority, but this is just a test to see how long it takes to get there. Maybe Standard will be fine in the future.

I am new to this site, and don't have much of a 'gar collection yet, so I hope they like what I had on hand. ... And yes, those are 'Swisher Sweets' and 'Black and Milds' in there.

Good test on the shipping. One soldier I chatted with seemed to think it took the same time for priority as it did for first class.

Nice assortment, I am sure it will be very appreciated.

nice looking box 🙂

Yeah mine run $1 per pound priority here. The test i ran for time ran like this.

Standard took 3-4 weeks to get to the USA base location and another 3 weeks to get to the troops.

Priority took 5-10 days to get to the base and 3 weeks to get to troops.

On aveage - its about 3-4 weeks from my hands to theirs shipping priority. Standard is about double!

The real deal on shipping is like this: FPOs/APOs and the like get from your place to their embarkment point out of the US via whatever method you ship them (standard, priority, etc). From there, they're all done basically by space available on transports and contract carriers. Do packages marked priority often get shipped before standard packages? Yes, but it's not consistent.
I have family not far from Bethlehem (less than 30 minutes from CBid) and it would take 2-4 weeks to get packages from them when I was in Saudi regardless of stardard/priority status. Shipments from CBid took an average of 6 days. I still haven't figured that one out!

Oh yeah, and thanks for supporting our troops overseas! That's a great package. You've got my #1 fav thing for care packages -- beef jerky.
One thing I always liked getting was stuff you could only get in certain areas. Tastykakes from Philly, GoldStar chili from Cincinnati, etc. Chapstick and those baby-wipe things that they have for grown-ups now are always good too.
