I just bought a Romeo y Julieta 1875 Robusto and it looked like there was a little cotton or something in the end, so I started to pick at it.

There was a small feather in the end of the cigar!

I have never seen anything like that before.

Anyone ever run into anything like this?

Do they roll cigars in chicken coups or what?

That's almost enough to turn a person off to a particular brand.

I also have seen little tufts of white in the end of a cigar. I seem to remember pulling it out & it looked like cotton fabric.

Remember that the cigar business is an agricultural industry & many times there are chickens, pigs, goats, etc. running around nearby. Heck, maybe that's where we get that barnyard aroma I'm so fond of in a cigar!

I like the RyJ cigars, it is one of the best "smooth" cigars I have found and when I am in the mood for a smooth cigar, nothing compares. ; )

I e-mailed them to let them know what I found.

Not sure why, but it seemed like a good idea.

Not as uncommon as you may think ...

... you all have to understand that most factories in these 'third world countries' are not operated like a 'clean room' of a computer chip manufacturer.

Alien matter does (and will) show up once in awhile ... heck, the other day I went to cut a Hoja Yellow Band, and my SAK could barely get through it!

Turned out to be a piece of really stiff cardboard-like brown paper twine, kind of like something the leaves may have been tied together with, to hold them together while they were hanging in their aging barns.

Heck ... you would be surprised at what some people have found in their cigars, that I've heard them tell over the years ...

... so really, a feather? No big surprise here ...
