I had a few cigars that I had punched and I usually check and see if I can draw off them before I light them and some won't, so I put them off to another humidor.

Well, the other day I left one sitting on the shelf.

I noticed it today and no draw problem. The only thing I can think of is that it was too humid and leaving it out dried it out. Funny thing is, the humidors are all at about 68 and I calibrated the gauge.

I don't put anything in the humidifier, because the humidity here is usually 70+.

So I have been thinking of putting a seperate humidor with rice in it, only for cigars that are tight.

Am I wrong in this thought?

Its kinda strange... I have a few Cacique Family Martin's that when straight outta my humi draw/burn terribly! Now I keep my main humi (an Aristocrat with Set 'N Forget}at 68% humidity and they still burn uneven with hard draws but this isn't the case with the other smokes in it. I've found that these particular smokes need a day or two dry-box time to blossom into decent smokes. Granted they aren't top-shelf cigars but I like 'em for my afternoon commute home from work. I guess sometimes it just has to do with how humidity affects the roll/bunch of tobacco in each cigar.

no one ever said it was gonna be easy....

Many people "dry box" the cigars they take from long term storage before they smoke them. It's fine-just don't let them get overly dry.

try to take them out half hour before burn time than see what happens some times a little longer is necessary.

0pat -- in the winter, i dry box a cigar for 24 hours if it won't draw well when i tap it. with the humidity here, though, summah time is a different story.

what i've been doing is dry boxing them using the same (small) non-varnished cigar box, but i place that box into a little plastic-lidded dealio that has white rice scattered along the bottom of it. works like a charm to dry it out just enough without it getting dessicated or picking up odors from around the house (a lot of garlic and onions get cooked around here!).

Thanks guys, so it seems I am on the right track.

I feel much better now that I may be on to something to save some cigars from being smashed against the wall.

Hey Tony, mmmm, garlic. LOL!
