Yesterday, I was given several glass encased Gurkha Figurados from a wealthy client. From doing some simple research on the internet, they seem to be some sort of Gurka Reserve that were infused with cognac.

Well, I opened one of them up and the strongest odor came out of the tube. I don't know whether to say it was good or bad but it was overpowering. So much so i am concerned about mixing up with my other cigars in the humidor.

so my two questions are these.....

Are these cigars SUPPOSED to smell so strong and overpowering? or do i have a rotting batch?(they do LOOK good). Does cognac make them age(or rot) better?

what does a cognac infused cigar smell and taste like?

Yes they do have a strong aroma. Don't open the tubes until you are going to smoke these. I wouldn't put them in the humi with your other smokes.

I have had a couple and they were excellent smokes. Althought the aroma is strong the cognac taste is subtle and does not over power the cigars natural taste.

Enjoy

I suggest that when you are ready to smoke one, let it "dry out" a bit out of the tube before lighting. The ones I've seen were sorta wet at first. And I agree w/ Pablo...smoke first, then see how it is!

What that is, is a Gurkha Platinum Louis XIII Torpedo I'm sure it had a silver seal on the end of the tube, since you said it was a figurado, and the brown seals are on the Churchills. I like these, and haven't had problems mixing them with my other cigars, but I smoke them after uncorking them so to speak, and only leave them in the humi in their sealed tubes. Enjoy!

actually, THIS seal was gold/red NOT silver even thou it is a figurado and not churchill. So apparently it dates from before they were different or more consistent than the present.

I will smoke tomorrow and tell you what I think. I've been smoking cigars heavily this weekend and am smoked out!

If anybody cares, in no particular order...

Very unique but good smoke. Don't store w/ the rest of your stash and before you light up - take it out of the tube and let it dry out for a whole day - they're very wet....

never had one. But would dry box it for a few days ALONE from what i hear the other brothers saying. I find most Tubos like this for me. Seem spongee when you uncap them and try and torch immediately. I dry box everything lately but especailly all tubo.
