I am wondering if anyone has a solution for a sappy humidor. I won a very nice Havana Designs 100 capacity "scratch and dent" with no scratches or dents, the only problem seems to be that the cedar is weeping sap. I have cleaned it using denatured alcohol, this seems to have solved the problem for now. Is there a long term solution for this problem? or do I have to re-line it.

Robert, great answer for a wiseass remark by Slimboli..actually, I would leave this humidor empty for a while and see if the sap reappars and if it doesn't then you have the problem beat! Charlie

What I have read is sap is natural occurance in cedar. The permanent solution is to heat it up or cure it. Because it is in your humidor already, that would not be wise. I would heed Charlies advice, leave is empty to see if it returns, and continue with the alcohol. A little alcohol for you, a little for the humidor. A little more alcohol for you.....

I checked out the web site... no luck. I have also read about the problem with the spanish cedar "bleeding", but no information was offered on how to stop the sap in a finished humidor. The information did include the advice that if you are going to make a humidor, let the spanish cedar sit for a while before using it. I guess Havana Designs didn't heed the warning. They did how ever suggest that baking the wood in the oven at 250 degrees might help.

Hummm.... bake the humidor at 250 for 1 hour..... my wife will love this one.... LOL.

E-mail c-bid's cutomer service. They're always more than willing to offer help. If the problem persists, I'll bet they will exchange. Even though (I think) they have a no-return policy on scratch-&-dent sales, this isn't a scratch or a dent. I think the no-return is for cosmetic reasons.

Open it. Put it outdoors in direct sunlight on a sunny day. Repeat as necessary. There's only so much sap it can bleed before it runs dry. If you drop it, don't worry. It's a scratch and dent...

cut it up in little pieces and use it to light your cigars with. I hear tell that sap infused cedar gives your cigars that little extra umph...

Well it worked.... 3 hours in the oven at 200 to 225 and a few more alcohol treatments on the hour for the humidor and on the half half hour for the owner and got rid of the problem. Just in case, I put the Flor de Los Reyes that I won a few weeks ago, right over the problem spot. If those POS cigars get sappy it just might improve them.... LOL. Flor De Los Reyes translates to ... swept the floor and rolled the s*** into cigars.... live and learn... at least I have a new worst cigar. Rob
