Howdy,

Just scored my first Cbid win - 5 pack of Perdomo Reserve #4. yay!

I don't smoke regularly, but when i do I like to indulge. Don't know crap compared to you guys and wanted advice.

I used to smoke the Hemingways (SS and Sig), and have had a couple nice ISOM Cohibas (not sure the size). The Cohibas just blew my mind . . chocolate, nuts, smooth . .

What is most similar to those? CI tells me that the Double-X are closest, then Camacho Corojo . . . any other ideas? How do my Perdomos stack up? I hear they are chocolaty.

TIA,

elchupaman

Taste is a pretty subjective thing ... I like the Perdomo's but as I'm sure you'll soon see, not everyone agrees with me ...

For what it's worth, my advise is to try different cigars (the 5-packs are a good way to go when sampling) and remember what you like and equally important, what you don't.

First off...welcome aboard or bienvenido...and your a brave person for choosing that ID..."ELChupaMan"...heh..heh...

As for cigars that match ISOM's...wow...i guess i like cigars based on their own taste...rather then trying to compare them to something else...

I like Padron's...and some dont...but that is the fun of this...

oh yeah . .i hear ya. But since i don't have access to ISOM sticks, i was wondering if there is something vaguely similar with the smooth and creamy, chocolate and nuts thing going on.

ps-why brave about elchupaman? what did i miss . . .

No offense meant...just a little translation...

In spanish "chupa" can mean many things to many people...

Ex...

El Chupa can mean he drinks...or it can mean he sucks...just depends on the person reading it...

oh my . . .

Well to set it straight . . .it's just a short **** name coming from El Chupacaba (the mexican monster . . which i guess does suck blood . . .damn . .).

You know when you get on AOL or where ever and they ask you to come up with a name and you try 500 thousand things . . .all of them taken . . .you start making sh*t up.

Whelp. I am certainly comfortable enough with my extreme masculinity to not have a problem with it. hehe

Welcome to the madhouse elchupaman,

You will have fun here. You beat me out, on those reserve #4s. LOL They are great smokes, you will like them. Let them adjust, for a couple of weeks, as they seem to be shipped wet, and smoke better, at around 60%-65% humidity. If you maintain a 70/70 humi, as many do, you may want to drybox them, in an old cedar cigarbox, for 24 hours, before smoking them. I keep my Perdomos, and the occasional ISOM, at 60-65%. They just smoke better that way.

As far as domestically available smokes, that tast like an ISOM??? They don't exist. For one that is close, but without that distinct cuban taste or whang as I've heard it called, I would recomend CAO Blacks. Great smooth creamy taste, and a good full body. Don't smoke it on an empty stomach, as they can pack a punch. Much like my favorite ISOM.

Have a great day, and I hope I have been some help.

Thanks Homebrew (i used to homebrew BTW)

Ya you helped. Funny, as the CAO Blacks were the next thing on my list for trying. My short list is the Centurian XX, Camocho Corojo, CAO Black and 5 Vegas (and the Perdomo of course . .sorry bout that!).

I have had temporary Tupperdores but am going to set up something a little bit more permanant soon. i was thinking about using those jars with the p. glycol crystals . . .whats your humidity control method?

The Black is a very good creamy, spicey smoke. The Perdomo you bought is one of my daily smokes. Hints of chocolate but I would not compare it to a Habano.

I echo what Rasdas says I immediately chupa me or chupa mi pene.

I guess literally the suck man???

I use Climaxx Beads. I use a couple of shotglasses full, in the 150 count desktop, and a lbs and a half, in a tupperware in my 150 quart coolerdor, the smaller coolers have a half lbs each. Climaxx beads come in either 70% humidity, or 65% humidity. I have 65% beads, in one cooler, mainly filled with perdomo products. My 150 quart, is my longterm box storage, I have 70% beads in it. My desktop, also has 65% beads in it, as those are ready to smoke, and I prefer smoking cigars around 65%.

PG and distilled water work well, in floral foam the absorbant kind, works well. If you use 50/50, by weight not volume, your humidity will be pretty stable, at 70%. add a little more PG and you can lower the humidity.

I have not used the gel, but imagine it will work well.

Have a great day.

Well, as to the name, you could just go to the English version of what you're talking about: Mexican Goat Sucker. Uh..... I guess that's kind of a negative, huh?!

Well anyway, welcome aboard. The Perdomo's you chose are quite nice, one of my favorites too. Homebrew already mentioned keeping these at lower humidity, I'll second that in a big way! From what I've found Perdomo's seem to smoke and taste great at about 65%. As to other brands, well, it's too personal really. Most of the big names have similarly high levels of construction and quality, so it really comes down to taste. One of the reasons the five packs here are GREAT!

As to the humidity control I'll also give the Climmax media a nod. This stuff is absolutely great! I have the 65% media and it works wonders, almost set and forget. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

Hope this helps.

gosh dammit. i am gonna have to change my name now.

Don't you guys realize that this is not just straight Spanish but an Eastern Catalan dialect with a strong Portugese root . . .so actually my ID means "he who deserves Cuban bombs". I don't know WTF that means, but whatever you read into that is up to you. 😉

elchupaman-

stay away from the jars. they don't breath. great for short term storage, not long term. splurge on a humi or build a coolidor or igloodor. enjoy!!

Welcome Elchupa! tee-hee

Don't worry about your name.....many of the people that are razzing you, have changed their names at one time or another. Thick skin sometimes is a must here, and it looks like you are well on your way to fitting right in.

Follow Homebrew's humidity advice, and have a great time here!

Oh....and I would definitely add Torano to your list of cigars to get and try. Torano is the most consistent in price and high-quality of all cigar makers, IMO.

Welcome elchup...

I'm pretty new here too, but have found it to be a great place to meet friendly B&SOTL. It's a veritable college of cigar knowledge!

What Burkey said, steer clear of the jars for long term unless you are into soaking wet cigars!

What Smelly said, whatever it was (he has good taste).

Welcome Chupa cabre (I couldn't help it)

coolerdor or sweater boxes just remember to burp them. I use a jar at work I just monitor the humidity and occassionally leave it open. I use both climaxx media and good old PG 50/50.

I changed my handle cause I lost a bet there mr smellman. And yes thick skin is needed.
