Sorry all I know this probally isn't the place to do or say this. But I had to do something. I just need to get this off my chest. I mean outside my wife and parents. You BOTL and SOTL are my extended family and friends.

I just wanted to let you all know that I had to have my dog put to sleep last night after 8 years of joy. The sad part was I got to stay in there with him while they did it and his tail never stopped wagging until it was over. I then went home and dug a hole and buried him the whole time bawling like a baby.
I mean damn I'm 6'8" 330 pounds and ran as a Firefighter Medic for 6 years before I went into my new field.
I always new I loved him but I never thought it would hurt me as much as it did to have to do what I did.

I'm sorry to unload on you guys and girls but I just had to get this out.

I've been there twice bro and I know the pain your going through it will pass with time. The good news is that when you think of him it will always be the fondest of memories. Mine had their ashes and dog tags spread under a newly planted tree in my back yard. I have a place to sit under that tree and from time to time I catch a glimps of those tags and it always makes me smile.

Dang you!!!! Ahhh, wait till I get the freakin tears out of my eyes. ...... I had to do the same exact thing (I mean exact) with my buddy of 15 years! That was 5 years ago, it is no less painful today as it was then. These awesome creatures just creep into your life and never leave do they! My heart and prayers are with you my friend! I completely understand!

Man I am so sorry for your loss!! Just because they are dogs doesn't mean we don't love em like one the family. I almost lost mine a couple months ago (had him since 1993) I cried the whole time waiting for him to get out of the operating room. Thank God you had him as long as you did and for all the joy he brought you. My heart goes out to you dude!

No need to apologize, you lost a good friend. And your showing sadness is a human display of how meaningful the friendship is.

I had to let a good friend go about two years ago as you did. Her name was Madison, she was a Golden Retriever. Her memory still makes me smile.

Sincere sympathy for your loss and hope sharing made it a little easier.

The dog is family and everyone is hurt by the loss. I've had many fine hunting dogs in the last 40 years. They were all family, they all lived to ripe old ages, and it cut me up every time I had to put one down. There are very few people out there who would not sympathize with your loss, having "been there and done that" themselves.

Oh man....my sympathy goes out to you. Lost 2 myself and it hurts bad. I`m 6'9" 300lbs and your story has me all teary eyed. Just look at the cute little guy.

I'm 5'10" and 290. My woman brought home 3 kittens from work a couple years ago. We cleaned them up and picked fleas of them (covered). 2 survived. The other one was obviously not going to make it after 2 days. We drove to the vet...the whole time with me crying like hell. 2 days on a stray kitten.

I can't imagine what will happen when my dog of 5 years now has to go.

I have a great deal of respect for you my friend. I dont know that i could have stood there while that was going on. We have had our boxer in the family from the time our daughter was born 6 years ago. Thank God he shows no signs of slowing down because not only would i have deal with it but i would also have my daughter's emotions to deal with.

I have lost a dog to Parvo(is that spelled right?) and the best medicine for that kinda loss is to get another one. Puppies are the best. Family is family no matter what. Good luck to you my friend.

I'm sorry for your loss, I still miss the dog I had growing up. She never left my side for 9years, everyday she would be standing at the end of the driveway waiting for the school bus to drop me off, then one day she was gone. She had gone off to die. It's never easy to loose any pet.

I agree with everyone else. No need to apologize. I have a 6 year old yellow lab now thats the best freind I've ever had. We got him after having to do the same thing you had to do after my last best freind got brain cancer. I never thought another dog could become just as good a freind, but Sabastian is. A freind of mine once said "Dogs understand the english language perfectly, but dont speak a word of it". Always thought that said alot. I feel bad for you. God Bless!

I had to do the same 4 years ago with my best friend of 12 years. Stayed with him the whole time like you did, I just could not leave him alone after all the years he stayed by my side.
