I had painting the family room on my to-do list for this weekend. So while I gave the 1st coat an hour or two to dry, I went out to the back yard to sample the first Padilla cigar I have ever seen, never-the-less smoked. Won a fiver of Robustos last week, gave them a few days in the humi to settle in, but today, it got the torch! These sticks are purported to be favored by the rich and famous, and the man responsible for these is said to be one seen with many a basketball and football star, plus a few rap stars as well.
The construction was perfect, although no triple cap as specified. Light up was a breeze, the draw was beyond perfect, it was heaven. The stick gave off huge billows of white smoke. The cigar offered plenty of wood and rich tobacco favors, but it was overshadowed by a very metallic, flinty taste that seemed to fade just after I was half way through. I must add, the last half mellowed into a very satisfying mellow smoke, with a nice long finish. In that last half, I could taste plenty of woods and spice, with a nice hint of a pepper at the finish.
This was only one cigar; others may not have the issues mentioned. I am going to give them some down time and see what comes. All-in-all a very attractive cigar, with superb construction and a "perfect 10" draw. Hopefully they will benefit from some sleep, to become the legend some seem to make them.
But, this is just one man's opinion...
