this little bugger decided he owned the feeder. he took a position where he could chase away any other hummer that wanted to eat. i'm only about 5' away and i don't scare him.

Nice PIC Rick. We have feeders here and my wife and I are just thrilled at the number of birds we get. They will defend the feeder and that is a lot of fun to watch. I have had them close enough to touch.

We have an occasional defender situation at one of our feeders too. We got to see the male ritual courting flight a few weeks ago, where they fly back and forth in a wide pendulum-like arc. Fascinating creatures.
