Got my HUGE otterbox in the mail yesterday from c-bid, I dont really know what the purge knob does...Anyone know if it is for elevation changes or what it does, and how to use it?

Thanks,

It is for elevation changes, ie. belly of an aircraft.

You'll find out how important it is the first time you take it on a flight. Just turn the knob counterclockwise to equalize the pressure, then turn the knob clockwise to close it again. After that, you can open it with ease.

My Otterbox doesn't have the knob, so I have to pry the damned thing open with a butterknife after a flight. 😞

I took mine to Tahoe...thing popped like a cork when I cracked the knob.

Went home (300 ft above sea level) thing probably wouldn't open if I hadn't cracked the knob.

Yeah...they're air tight and the seal works quite well

I just won an aucton for a small otterbox (5ct), it will be great for traveling, and it comes filled with Padrons.

I have to fly to Denver Sept 29-Oct 1, and Boston

Oct 5-Oct 12, now I can take some gars with me and not worry about damage.

Also we use some custom made otterboxes for several of our longterm outdoor, environmental testing instruments that we build, they are water proof, weather proof and just about indestructible.

That knob is great! When I've taken a flight, it's all I can do to open the otterbox (5 - 15 capacity that doesn't have the knob). You get a "whoosh" when you open it, something like piercing a can of vacuum sealed coffee, but it can do a number on your fingernails, and you really have to work with any instrument you're trying to use to open it. But they work great because they ARE airtight.

Yep, went to Las Vegas and had never had to use the knob. Actually, didn't really know what it was for, but when I got there, couldn't get it open.

Of course, my wife had to help me out and show me how to work it. Once she turned the knob, it opened right up. Yeah, I'm so smart. DOH!

The otterboxes are also great at keeping the sticks dry. I crew on a mid-sized sailboat quite a bit and enjoy a nice, dry smoke after a race. The otterbox is the perfect ticket.
