First, does anyone know of any other cigars that have a similar flavor profile to the Padron X000 Maduro line (the 5000 is my favorite non-premium/super premium)? They have such a unique taste that I love but they can be kind of pricey.

Second, I read in an article or book a while back that Padron made some other cigars other than the Padron line. Is there any truth to this?

I would agree, a great smoke. But there really is nothing out there, Like a Padron, unless it's another Padron. Just my .02

What Dave said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

but, If you want to try something similar (I mean in the same type of dark and roasty maduro flavor but by no means an equal replacement or substitute) try the Nestor Reserve or Mayorga Maduro... Both good cheap cigars that taste similar to Padron Maddies (NOTE I SAID SIMILAR BUT BY NO MEANS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE REAL THING...Jeeezzz I'm probably gonna catch some flack for using the word similar but oh well try the ones I mentioned out and see what you think...)

I have never tried Padron, so I can't offer any comparison. I did just read an article on their company in Cigar Aficionado and according to them they have one brand, Padron, with three different lines which include anniversary types. You gotta love these family owned operations!!!

You might like a Bucanero brand cigar...give it a whirl.

Padron makes mighty fine cigars.

Estelo Padron manufactures, in Honduras, an old Cuban brand called Belinda. The Belinda Black line is remarkably similar in taste to the Padron X000 lines, at a fraction of the price.

The wrapper is an extra dark Medio Tiempo from Connecticut and the flavor has the same expresso and walnuts that I love in the Padron X000's.

A word of warning. The Belinda Blacks that are sold here on CBid are mislabeled. They are actually light wrappered Belindas. The real Blacks are easy to find on a large website and catalog, and sell for $35 to $45 a box.

P.S. As usual, the last poster doesn't know what he is talking about. The Bucaneros have a very unusual flavor which is absolutely NOTHING like a Padron. I'm sorry, they do have something in common - they are both cigars.

Isn't the Bucanero more expensive than the Padron 5000?

"As usual, the last poster doesn't know what he is talking about."

???

As I read that post, he just said try the Bucaneros...

I haven't had Bucs, but do expect as described that they do taste different from the Padrons.

No argument with Homebrew's descriptions!

I guess I didn't finish my thought,

The reason I said try the Torano was because

a Padron is my go to cigar.

But , I don't want to smoke my whole supply

of Padrons (easy to do)

So when I open up that humidor I got my

Padron side and my Torano/Fuente side.

I figure I can't go wrong either way.

Kaz, your bender and sniping is a deterrent from the brotherhood that we share. Drop it for the sake of others that use this board. I rounded up a few comments that anyone can find from BOTL's that raved about Bucanero and it's comparison to the Padron Anniversario Natural, granted it's no Padron 3000 or 5000, but the similarities of those can be found with the Classico and the Catalinas. The BOTL was looking for suggestions, not an arguement.

If my tastebuds are so wrong, then I'm proud to be in the company of these BOTL's that think the same as I do about a Bucanero product.

Maybe it's just me ...

... but I find them to be very similar to a PAN ...

Sorry to hear you didn't like, or your expectations were low on the Buc Z. I myself like them and yes they are a great morning smoke or a nice smooth evening smoke. Mine has changed characteristics as I smoked them, but to each his/her own. The Z is said to be comparable to the CAO Black, and I beleive that is a good comparison. If anyone is disappointed in their Z's, send them my way, heheheeeee.

I wish I was still smoking it. 😉

At around 8:30 PM I figured it was time to burn my first 'Z'.

Looked flawless, firm, prelight draw was smooth as a baby's ass.

The burn was even as can be, the ash at one point got too damn long and would not fall off. 😉

The flavors got more powerfull as the cigar burned down to the nub, needless to say I have a blister on my finger. Med/Full strength, Full bodied to say the least.

'If your a PAN lover.......this would be it's brother.'

4.6 out of 5

That's all I have time for.......grab a box or 2 if you get the chance. You won't be sorry.

My ride home smoke is gonna be a 'Crew', and tonight a 'Salsa'.

The local smoke shop has the z and salsas for $7 a piece. Is that a decent price?

Aaaarrrrrggggh!!!! Smoked me last Z last night! Ay, it was, indeed, a dandy! Now I shall be in search of more buried treasure! Arrrrgg!

Author: DrMaddVibe Date: 11/14/2003 03:27 PM Reply

I don't know about that one. Fuente? Anjeo? WOAM? Short Story? FFOX?

Now, back to the original thread...PAM anyday. That is if you want to smoke a cigar with flavor. DC's are bland, construction is always flawless, but it's not my cup of tea. The Maximus line...only had 3 of them. I liked them, but it's still no PAM. If you're looking for a cheaper "replacement", then you need a Bucanero Z...but that more of a PAN then a PAM.

Opinions are like a$$holes...everyone's got one!

Author: i.am.steve Date: 11/15/2003 01:10 PM Reply

You would seriously compare a Buc to a PAM or PAN? That's crazy (in my demented mind)! The closest thing I can find is a Perdomo Estate Seleccion Maduro.

Author: Slimboli Date: 11/15/2003 01:32 PM Reply

i.am.steve --- yes, I would also compare a Buc 'Z' to a PAN, without hesitation.

I know for a fact, that Robert respects and admires greatly the 'blends and rollers' of Padron ... and has strived and continues to model many of his new lines after the finer Padron cigars.

What Mr.Mean said and along with that, overtones of a Habano Montecristo #2. BTW,by the time I was done,I had a nice buzz going. X :~)

Don Kiki White Label "Vintage" Maduro has a similar profile. If you lucky enough to score some. I think the robustos are the only ones remaining.
