Just wanted to know where is the best spot to buy cigars. Doesn't matter if there cubanos or not. I'm taking a supply with me any....just in case.

There are several good places ... and lot's of threads on this one.

Do a search ... you will come up with some winners.

I will say the Havana Club on the Isle of Cozumel ... for sure (it is a 'La Casa del Habano') for authentic Cuban cigars (expect to pay the price though), and I've also head from a local BOTL who lives there (who I visited), that Morgan's on 5th Ave. in Playa Del Carmen (has several shops) can be trusted for Cuban cigars.

As far as 'domestics'? ... he begged me to bring him premium Dominicans and the like when I visited (which I did), because he said that it was just too hard to get the good ones ...

... just my 2¢

Maybe this is important...just to keep your head up. If I was going there...I wouldn't worry much...but I would stay out of downtown.

This Public Announcement is being issued to alert Americans to demonstrations and possible travel delays in Cancun due to the resignation of the city council in Cancun and the removal of the Mayor the weekend of July 18, 2004. This announcement expires on August 20, 2004.

On July 16, after the resignation of the city council in Cancun and the removal of the mayor, there were violent demonstrations centered around city hall (Ayuntamiento) and the Plaza de la Reforma in downtown Cancun, and demonstrations have continued throughout the week. Americans traveling to Cancun should use caution and avoid crowds, especially around the city hall and the Plaza de la Reforma, as there is a potential for spontaneous violence. There is a possibility that members of the taxi unions or bus drivers might attempt to block the main road into the hotel zone as a sign of protest. Should there be a blockade of the road into and out of the hotel zone, travelers should not attempt to pass through or go around roadblocks.

Most of the Cubans you get in Cancun are fake. The reptutable shops sell them but DO NO expect a bargain as they are expensive. There are several shops in the malls and one very nice one in the new shopping center on Kulkakan Blvd (the Hotel District). Even in the nicer shops, the cigars can be dried out and funky. Even the non-cubans are very pricey, compared to what you can get them for in the US. We usually go to Cancun every other year andhave done so for the last 10

or 11 years. I have found that taking my own is the best way to go.
