I just got back from playing poker with some friends. i always take a few 'gars with me to pass out and enjoy. so i give this guy a Cupido Churchill and this moron starts licking it all over and puts about 2 inches of the cap end in his mouth and starts twisting it around. Please tell me this guy has an oral fixation, and that this isnt normal. Because i dont think i could continue smoking cigars if it was.

Man, my neighbor did the same thing. . . . I gave him a cigar, and he proceeded to deep throat the thing right in front of me. . . . . he slobbered all over the thing like Jenna Jameson going for the money shot. . . . . I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong by not giving my cigar a sloppy 'ol knob job. . .

funny, I know a lot of guts who smoke Swishers, backwoods , etc that do this.

Why, cause the cigars are dry and burn too fast. this helps slow them down. I would guess these guys don't smoke good gars.

Now I do moisten the cap prior to cutting but 2 inches???

many people do this. it's a carryover from days long y when humidors weren't a dime-a-dozen. When making long journeys or just not smoking often, the tobacco would dry out. Our forefathers/mothers would dip the cigar in alcohol (brandy, burbon, rum, or scotch) to moisten them. When alcohol wasn't available, you used saliva.

sooner.....I've seen this from a friend as well. I must admit...after cutting I tend to wet up the end a bit to get the raw taste, but it is nothing that damages/hinders the cigar.

Seth...jenna jameson???? money shot???? what are you talking about? did I miss something??? 🙂

There is this old guy who rides around in an electric wheelchair in the town I live, and as a stainless 'hook' for a hand ... sort of a 'legend' around these parts (they call him 'hook'), and is well known and liked by almost everyone in the town.

One day I met up with him in a local bar, and offered him a Cuban Diplomaticos Torpedo ... and the guy (missing half his teeth as well) proceeded to do the same thing ... only by the time he finished, it was dripping!

It was so gross ... I almost threw up right then and there.

When I asked him what the hell he was doing ... he replied, "well, isn't that what you are supposed to do?" It was also his first Cuban cigar.

The worst part, is he only smoked it down about an inch, thanked me ... stuck it in the ashtray and 'motored' out the door.

It smelled so bad of raunchy, rotten breath ... I had to go outside to catch my breath, and then find another table.

Unfortuantely, that experience will forever be imbedded in my mind ...

I grew up going to business meetings with my dad. We would always, invaribly, end up at some big-shot's office where they would almost always have cigars. I remember most of them licked their cigars before smoking. I always thought it was normal.

When I was a bit older and hung out at a pipe-makers shop from time to time, he told me that was from a time where many cigars would dry out or burn unevenly. He said it was the department store (dime store) cigars that were notorious for this. Since that was the bulk of what people smoked, a lot of the older smokers would lick their cigars to help them burn right.

I guess there are still some who remember their past and think it's what you do to a cigar. Had I not been educated about that and had not gotten into cigar smoking at a younger age, I would still would have thought that is what one does prior to smoking. I bet that's what contributed to some of the cigar's nasty smell in those days.

I was talking to my Dad last night about this. Another member of our Fire Company was there, they both agree, you used to have to "wet them down" so they didn't burn too fast. They both remember a past Chief carrying a box of King Edwards in his car, no humidor, just the box...

My Dad has just recently started smoking cigars with me, (he has smoked a pipe for years, still does.) He said "I know I didn't raise a dummy, when you didn't wet yours, I figured you knew what you were doing and followed suite." (Now if that doesn't make a son feel good!)

aren't stupid people great. my buddy Kenny and i were sitting at a bar smoking and drinking when this drunk guys comes up and asks if our cigars are real cubans (not one cuban in the bunch) but i told him they were and that the bands were just there to get them thru customs. so he pays me 5 bucks for an Oro Cubano (i paid 40.00 for 50 of them; yeah and 80cent smoke) and he felt like he got such a deal he bought me and Kenny a round of drinks. Kenny asks how i feel about racking some guy for about 15 bucks in cash and drinks for an 80 cent cigar and all i got to say is if there were more dummies on the planet i would quit my day job. 2 weeks ago i was smoking a Mexican hand made i got from C-Bid and they are a pretty good smoke and this stupid girl at the bar assumed it was a Cuban and paid me 5 bucks again for a dollar stick.

so now i know here in TN that most people will think its a Cuban if you tell them it is or it don't have a band on it. goes back to the rule "IF YOU BELIVE IT THEY BELIVE IT".
