Proposal for a new type of trade: Cheap Shot. A variation of the PIF.

This trade is meant for newbies and vets alike. Being a newbie myself, I don’t have a large inventory of high end smokes but do have a variety of “good value” smokes. We’ve all found those “bang for the buck” smokes we like as everyday go to’s. This trade will allow the vets to share some of their inexpensive finds with the newbies and the newbies won’t feel intimidated by trying to keep up with the vets. All in the sprit of trying new cigars and getting to know the fellow BOTL.

Here’s how it’ll work. Someone asks “Anybody looking for a Cheap Shot?” Then the first person to respond will get a package (say 5 or 6) of cheap smokes from the previous person. Upon receipt of the smokes, the recipient will ask “Anyone looking for a Cheap Shot?” And so on and so forth.

I want to stress this in not meant as an outlet to purge your dog rockets. When I say cheap smokes, I’m not talking Swishers, or the Quickie Mart smokes. I’m thinking of the Connies, Old Fashions, any good seconds or tasty unbanded cigars you’ve found, or the steals you’ve found on C-bid or elsewhere. Get the jist?

Soo… “Whose looking for a Cheap Shot?”

drnos beat me to it....

I think thats a great idea! Might I also suggest that the sender let the recipient know where they might be able to find the sticks at a low price if they were so inclined. Just my humble opinion.

OK, how about this one: "I never forget a face, but in your case I'll make an exception." - Groucho Marx

Oh yeah, you mean the trade... Send snaily to

I agree Goody. If the sender can remember, please include any info that would help the recipient purchase some of his/her own if they so desire.

P.S. sorry about the double post above.

Good idea I think Bucky. Good luck and hope it takes off! Way to step up and think about the newbs! I even haven't participated in the regular pif from time to time....in between shipments of quality stock! This is a great way to get started in the trading area....I knew you were a keeper! LOL

drnos package is set and sealed. Will ship out tomorrow. Sending from the east coast to the west coast via USPS priority so you should see it by the end of this week, beginning of next. I'll e-mail confirm #.

nealep, keep an eye on the thread for the next "Anyone want a cheap shot?" Gotta act quick.

Else, we could do multiple Cheap Shots in parrallel but that may get confusing on who's responding to who (or is it whom?).

Thoughts? I may not be able to coordinate multiple ones so if we go that way, it'll have to be a team effort.

Thanks for the support Dave. You've set the standard for me, just trying to keep up.

P.S. look alive, I've landed a couple more auction winnings and have reloaded my pea shooter. A little riddle here... hint: pea as in "P."

OK, just came in after smoking a nice little smoke I recieved the other day from a true BOTL from zip code 97402. While listening to the Red Sox win and contemplating the meaning of life, I think we can try this trade in the following fashion.

In order to keep things solvent (we already appear to have two or three more Cheap Shots in the wings) we'll try three different passes. I'll send the initial seed packages and try to maintain this thread. Here are the titles of the three subset Cheap Shots.

1) The Groucho Marx Cheap Shot. Already in progress with drnos which goes out tomorrow.

2) The Mark Twain Cheap Shot. Goody, I think your next in line. Send me your snaily (see contact e-mail above).

3) The Sir Winston (as in Churchill) Cheap Shot. Didn't want to call it the Churchill since one might get hung up on the Churchill cigar size. Bullpup95, I think you spoke up next. Send me your snaily (see contact e-mail above).

This way we have a sort of password to see who's trading with who (or is it whom? I can never get that right...)

IMPORTANT Refinement of the rules. When asking "Who Wants a Cheap Shot?" State which Cheap Shot your working under by providing name of the subset and a quote from one of these famous BOTL (Brotherhood Of The Leaf). A Google search will turn up plenty.

So here we go...

Mark Twain's Cheap Shot to Goody - "Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please." Send snaily to Bucky.

Sir Winston's Cheap Shot to Bullpup95 - "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened." Send snaily to Bucky.

Mmmmm...."p" huh...you know they are my favorites! LOL

Make sure you don't make it too confusing for yourself or everyone else too! Sometimes....the simpler way is the most fun and exciting? Just my thought....but still awesome!

OK... I'm confused. Are you saying that the 3 different trade threads for the cheep trade are related to the type of 'gars, or are we just using quotes from these 3 distinguished gents as part of the fun of the trade?

Neal

By the way, "Hit me with your best [cheep] shot!" :o)

Yeah, your right it is a bit confusing now isn’t it? I wanted to try to keep this a bit more dynamic and the idea sounded good last night, but then again I had a couple drinks in the bloodstream. I guess if the idea doesn’t survive the buzz, it probably wasn’t a good idea in the first place.

Lets take out the names and quotes jibberish. I think I can keep track of three parallel swaps in this one thread. I’ll start each of them off.

Here’s the way they stack up right now:
1) I’m sending a package today to drnos.
2) I’ll send a second out to Goody once I receive his addy.
3) I’ll send a third out to Bullpup95 once I receive his addy. (looks like Bull's first post beat nealep by 15 min)

After that they will each send out a package to the first member to reply to each of their own calls for a Cheap Shot.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'll wait in line as well if that's ok. It's a great idea but I don't think I can keep up with three simultaneous trades on one thread.

And I thought I was the only one out there who smoked cheap cigars. If you peruse the threads on this board, some folks get downright onry at you when you mention a "less than desireable" smoke they say they would never buy, or put you down because it's not a CAO or a PADRON. When it comes down to it, all ya do is set the doggone thing on fire any way. SO, if you enjoy something for about a buck or so, why not share that info, and by gosh, the source. Count me in. Where do I start?

Didn't mean to scare folks away before we got off the ground. If is best to keep this to one trade at a time, I'm fine with that. I'm new at this so I'll don't know the dynamics.

Drnos' Cheap Shot is on the way. Once it's recieved, I hope we can keep the trade going.

As my other seed packages, I'll still honor them as an offline trade to the first two folks who drop me a line at stogiemac at yahoo dot com.

Hold your horses, herfsnipe.

I'm a newbie to this hobby and this forum too. My (limited) experiences here have been warm welcomes and friendly advice. My only experience with the vets here have been one sided - he knocked my shoes off. Never belittled the selections I sent him, never asked for anything more in return.

Even the vets probalbly don't smoke $8 cigars on a daily basis (I could be wrong). I realize that most of the trade threads concetrate on this level of smokes but then again, would you bring a $2 bottle wine, or a $5 bottle of whiskey to a dinner party? My take on most of the trades are to "some of my good stuff for some of your good stuff." (realize that good stuff is somewhat subjective, we all have different tastes).

Point of fact, I recieved an AWESOME tasting smoke from a vet which I found out later only runs under a buck (look up a Montecruz, it was a petite or cigillaro or something like that, you know little cigar).

Your right, there are good smokes out there at the $1, $2, $3 level. I don't think you'll find any argument on that. This trade is find these "sleepers" and share them.
