I posted this to "Misc" Board. Hog replied and said come here for advice:

I enjoy cigars - never had the $ to do it properly so I would buy a $3.95 'special' if and when I happened by a smoke shop.

I just found this site . . . my question:

Recommendations as to the absolute finest cigar available please? Don't know if I prefer strong, mild, yada yada, so I'm wide open at this end.

I have a spreadsheet set up to inventory the recommendations so that I can rate them based on what those that knows advise. If I can't get them at this site via bidding, is there another site recommended where I can purchase outright?

Would like to pick up a couple on the 21st locally, to allow a week to pass and collect the data from everyone willing to share. I will post those results on the 21st just for grins.

Thanks all, thanks Hog.

Let me be the first to say "welcome to the boards"

As far as best cigar avail (legally), I'm going to have to go with VSG...of course I'm assuming you're talking non-ISOM.

First off welcome coop!
Second, I think Hog meant for you to go to the Cigar & Related section. This question would qualify for that area of the forum. Don't get discouraged, we will help you here too.

As for the best, you will learn that everyone has a different taste as to their favorite cigar, so after you compile your list, you will just have to try them all and come up with your answer.

As for a site to purchase outright, go to:
www.cigarsinternational.com
That is the parent company to CBid, so when your bidding, keep CI open so you don't bid over the price available at CI. That is where the term Overbidding comes from, and that word only opens up another can of worms, heheheheeee.

Strap in and hold on, cause your in for a ride!!!
Keep your hands and feet inside the car and don't feed the animals. LOL!

Oooops, I forgot to give my answer, heheheeee.
I had my first Ashton VSG last week and if it qualifies as a mild cigar, I think I have to go that route. Other favorites include: Monticristo White Lables, and (less expensive) include: Camacho SLR Corona, Torano Exodus Silver Corona, CAO Anniversary Camaroon

I would say a well aged VSG counts as mild.

Try these
Perdomos
Toranos
Arturo Fuente
CAO
Gurkha - nice and mild

I have had some of these (Perdomos Maduros, Toranos any of them, Gurkha) and really like the Torano Signature Line....

This is old advise, but pick up a number of five packs or go to the Samplers section. There you can often try a number of cigars in one manufactures line or a number of different brands in a particular strength, size, or type of wrapper.

Welcome to the dark side!

In the medium price range I would suggest anything from Fuente, Torano, Ghurka, CAO or Perdomo. I personally also like the VS-55 line and Bucaneros.

The best around IMHO is the Padron Anniversary Maduro. I haven't tried the Padron 1926's yet but am hoping someone reads this, takes pity on me, and will trade me one or two cause I heard they are very good also.

This is really a VERY subjective question! I would in all honesty have to recommend you try 5 packs and samplers and ascertain what you like in a cigar, and once you have established a flavor profile, you would get some answers that would be closer to what you would actually enjoy instead of a polyglot of really expensive cigars that you may or may not like that much. PAM 64's are really good, but if I'm going to spend $10 on a cigar, I'll spend a few more and get a La Aurora Preferido Maduro. (I really like the perfecto shape!) Torano Tributes are great in about the same price range as the PAM, maybe a bit lower, and if you like those, the Torano 1959 Exodus Gold (I saw someone mention the Silver, but the Gold got left out!) Is about as good if you have the patience to age them a year! Perdomo La Traditione Cabinet Reserves are good, whether it's the Maduro, Cuban Cafe, or the Cameroon, and I hear they just released a new "Champaign" wrapper in that line. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it's as good as the others. Overall, I'm a big Torano fan, and a Perdomo fan, but you kind of have to try alot, and see what you like. A $20 cigar that you don't like is not as good as a $1 cigar that you enjoy! Have fun, enjoy the ride, and invest in a sweaterdor, you'll outgrow and humidor yu can buy within a couple of weeks! Say hello to Hog for me!

I could use some editor assistance. I know nothing of cigars yet, not even whether I like mild, medium or robust - sad, eh what?

Not too concerned with cost right now, I would just like to give the top 5 "absolute best" a try for myself (for grins.)

Anyone with the time and patience to serve as mentor - I am in learn-mode but have not a clue which to edit.

The PAM should be a must try, it is pricey but very good, deffinatley in the top five currently available.
