Last week, First Lady Laura Bush hosted a mini-summit on the benefits of early childhood education. But she failed to mention that her husband's proposed funding for Head Start -- a federal preschool program for poor children -- would actually leave the already-underfunded program with less money per student after inflation

Yes, but they are counting on taking away the corruption and "kickbacks" that have been practiced throughout the past years will be eliminated and the program will be run with more care and proceedures insuring that those children who "will be part of learn a kid to read" as you put it, will actually benefit from the input! What a novel idea, cut out waste and pork and make the program run at a lot less cost to the taxpayer! This is against all Liberal Democrat ideals, and is something unique to Mr Daschel and Gephardt! Charlie, what are you doing? Don't you know that it is better to measure a programs effectiveness by how much is spent rather than by results? Geez, some people never learn...

Amen Gaiter. We are not supposed to focus on the end result, only the intentions.

Senator Tom Dash it all with a negative comment was mewling about the reduction in money thrown at education, but had or has no idea of how to fix it, except to throw/waste a lot of dollars in the same old black hole! This guy is a clown dressed as a US Senator....whoops, sorry to insult the clowns of America. Charlie
