Sunday evening I went out on the porch to smoke a R&J Clemenceau and watch the stars come out. Four or five puffs into the smoke the sounds of a disciplinary problem erupt from inside the house and I've got to put the cigar down RIGHT NOW! The problem is going to take quite a while to to solve - probably past my Sunday night bedtime, so simply returning to it later isn's an option. The cigar is too good to simply throw away - as I've done with other, cheaper sticks. After the cigar - and the diciplinary problem - cooled off is rolled the cigar up in a zip-loc bag and finished it Monday evening. Is there a better solution?

I know others will tell you of ways to "save" the cigar for a later time, I'm one who doesn't think it's possible to put them "on hold" for very long ...

The preferable alternative, IMO, would have been to let the disciplinary problem sort itself out while you continued to enjoy the cigar, then to have gone inside to determine the survivor(s).

The only thing I would do different, is to 'blow out' the stale smoke. Push a few good long puffs out through the Gar, to make sure you have blown out any residual smoke from the current lighting.

I find that it is less bitter on the re-light when I do so...

Doesn't sound like you're a parent to me....

When the boss calls for disciplinary action, it means now, not later. My wife doesn't rule over everything, but there are certain times that you just don't question....

I just gave up and decided to wait until they are in bed before lighting up.

As to the other question, I've never been a fan of "morning after" half-smokeds. I couldn't get them to taste good, anyway.

Loosecard ... actually, I AM a parent ... 4 times over ... my comments were made with tongue-in-cheek in an attempt at humor (which didn't apparently translate well in writing) ... you are, of course, absolutely right.

Yeah, I hate it when I have to do this (and it isn't very often). What I do is purge the cigar (blow smoke thru it), tap of the ashes, clip the head containing ashes & embers, and slip the remaining cigar into my steel "cigar savor" tube. These tubes cost around $20-30 and are very nice. A plastic ziploc would probably work in a pinch too.

Wer has, IMO, the best answer, but since I don't have a cigar saver (yet) I use a disposable plastic container with a slightly damp (with 50/50) paper towel. I just keep the same ol' container for this very purpose.

But definately do as wer says and blow through it and cut off the burn end. If it does not have the same flavor, well at least you gave it the college try.

I find that relighting a cigar that has been out for more than a few minutes is an unpleasant experience. They never seem to taste right. However, if you are going to do it, I also recommend having a pair of cigar scissors handy. Cut the burnt end off before placing in the tube or ziploc bag.

Next time just bring the discipline problem out on the porch and keep the cigar lit.

Thanks guys. Next time - and with three children there will be a next time - I will bring the offender(s) out on the porch with me in order to keep the misses happy.
