My herf buddy from up the road started his first tupperdor. He got a Rubbermaid sweaterbox from Walmart. It has a terrible odor and washing it did not help. I have several and did not have this problem. Any suggestions ? Also, what about large cookie tins ? Seems like these would make good storage too. Anybody have experience with that ?

I have used whiskey tins & they worked just fine. Can't see why cookie tins wouldn't work. One thing though, they may rust from the higher humidity.

My first humidor was a popcorn tin. It worked just fine.

the Smell... try using Cider Vinager in a cup with the lids on for a few days and see if this draws it out...

then to kill the vinager smell a fresh box of Arm and Hammer backing soda...

also add some chunks of Spanish Cedar.. this will also help with keeping your humidity controled...

not sure about usuing Tins... to much moisture could lead to rust??
