Yeah ... if you are into mostly advertising and bought cigar ratings.

Smoke Magazine is far superior, IMHO ... and as far as the 'Big Smokes' go, I've never attended one, because everthing I have heard on them from those who have attended, has been that they are nothing more than a big 'cattle call' of 'wall to wall' people being hearded from one booth to another ...

... not my idea of a good time.

As someone who has "actually attended" 5 Big Smokes, I can tell you that they are a blast. For those who blast them there always seems to be someone else to take their place.

As my Father used to say, "Some folks wouldn't be happy if you hung em' with a new rope".

I don't know about the Big Smokes, as I have never been to one. Given the opportunity I would deffinatley go though. However as the two magazines go, I really prefer Smoke. There is alot more useful stuff in there. It's not all ads for stuff that I can never afford, like the newest Rolexes and stuff. It seems to be a much more down to earth mag than CA. In the last issue I saw there was a article on proper grilling of meat, now that is the kind of stuff I can sit and read about, without having to thumb through 57 pages of ads for high dollar clothes/watches/cars/milion dollar condos/ or buy your own jet airpalne. The people they interview also interest me more tha CA as well.

I have attended two of the Big Smoke events, one in Dallas, and one in Vegas. Actually navigating to each of the booths and collecting all of your cigars is a bit of a hassle. However, the event as a whole is fantastic. Relative to pricing on Cigarbid, the $150 admission doesn't seem like such a great deal for 25+ cigars. But, for the entire evening, you can eat and drink your fill of a wide array of premium spirits(primarily scotch and bourbon) as well as wine and beer, and have all the food you like from the various restaurants that take part in the event.

It's a party atmosphere, and I personally would highly recommend the experience to anyone who enjoys cigars. I took a client who doesn't even smoke to Big Smoke Dallas last year, and he had a great time just sampling all of the premium spirits, listening to the bands performing, and eating the great food they were serving. Say what you will about Cigar Aficionado Magazine, but the Big Smoke is great.

DRJ, how has the admission price evolved over the five events you have attended?

What would you guess to be the average number of cigars you got at them?

Elrico, thanks for the info, very helpful as I am thinking about attending. Were they decent cigars or were there a lot of dogs in the bunch?

Oh, and did your client collect his 25 cigars and give them to you? LOL!

I am actually taking my wife with me and she will "surrender" her smokes to me after. she doesn't especially like cigars (at least not the one's she has tried. If anyone from the forum is going please let me know and maybe we can meet and discuss the goings on. Oct 6th 4:30-7:00pm, marriott marquis, (i believe 43rd st. and 6th) ny, ny.
