as most of us are, i'm always lookin' for more humi space. a while ago i invested in a gun safe, and retired the ol' cabinet.

this cabinet is constructed of willow, i believe. it was my senior year woods class project, so it was a long time ago.

obivously, i would need to liner' with spanish cedar, but the door glass is actually plexiglass.

would plexiglass work as good as glass, or should this be swapped with the real stuff?

where could a guy score sheets of the magical spanish cedar?

i know there's alot of knowlege on humi's and woodworking on this board, so i'm at your mercy.

woodworking is a weak point of mine, so ANY advice is welcome.

thanx to any answers from anybody.

I would check the big home stores for the spanish cedar, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc. etc. If they don't have it they could probably order it in 4x8 foot sheets. I'm not sure about the plexi glass vs glass deal. You may even be able to use a spanish cedar veneer to line the cabinet with but someone else might now better about that also, the glues may have an adverse effect.

The home stores WON'T have spanish cedar. You will have to look for a specialty lumber supplier in your area. Do you have a Rockler or Woodcraft store near you? If they don't have it they can tell you who does. Second: Willow. Is that a hard wood? Spanish cedar may pull sap out of a soft wood. The sap will give a bad aroma. Third: Veneer. I know people have used it and say it works. I have my doubts that spanish cedar veneer is thick enough to give you the humidity regulating properties you desire. Use 1/4" or 1/2". My local supplier mills to the thickness I want. Price is the same for either. For a cabinet liner, I'd use 1/2".

http://www.rockler.com/index.cfm?  take a look here.. decent prices for spanish cedar... as for the plexiglass.. you can probably use it if it is airtight.. but if you are putting 200 bucks of cedar in it.. put the glass in..
