Just finished reading this article while smoking a #4. I admit that my isom experience is somewhat limited but have enjoyed every #4 ever had. It is true some have been a little better than others but always a fine smoke. Any other thoughts on Cuba's Montecristo's or the #4's?

My first real cigar. To this day, still my absolute favorite. Now if they only made it in a perfecto (gotta try some of those Cuabas, I guess).

redsquid,

Man, you must be reading my mind. I wish Monte would come up with perfecto too. Not neccassarily a Salomones, but something like an AF Best Seller or AF Sig would be great! But, it took over 3 decades to come up with the Edmundo, so.... 😞

I like the Monte 4s a lot. I had one about a year ago and it was my first "wow" experience with a cigar. The 4's are considered the "table wine" of Habanos by the experts, but I like 'em. I've only had two No. 2s so far, one over a year old (excellent) and one that was about 1 month old. Lots of youthful power but still had great depth of flavors. The other 24 are sleeping until their 1 year anniversary.

Sorry but I think the Montie #2 is the best of all cigars!

I don't know. Why don't you send one over and I'll tell you what I think : )

I've had an especial #2, which looks like a #4 with an extra inch. It was a totally different profile, sort of like vanilla and almonds, where the #4 was spicy and rich like ginger snaps. Unfortunately the draw on the esp.#2 was way too tight (my own fault, I forgot to drybox it before the night I wanted it, and I knew it would be snug), so I couldn't get the full range from it. I've never had the torp #2.

My favorite ISOM's are the ERDM Choix Supreme and the PSD#3 EL. The MC#2 is a great smoke as well but since we're talking the MC#4 and Petit Coronas... the best of the ISOM PC's are the Por Larranaga, the SLR and the Partagas IMHO. All three are bursting with taste and depth of flavour and are also powerful little smokes. If you're in the mood for something that isn't real mild (MC#4) then try one of these other three.

Cheers,
