Steve, you ever drink Absinthe? That stuff is Deeeeeeeeesgusting! My experience with it leads me to believe that it was once outlawed not for its supposed psychotic effect but rather because of its vile taste 🙂

By way of an answere to the question you haven't asked yet, let me just say that whether you choose to leave the cello on or take it off, there'll be a lot of guys here who agree with you and a lot of others who'll think you're wrong ... me? ... I think it doesn't make 5¢ worth of difference in the long run, other than the cello does tend to protect the wrappers of the cigars it's on, but knick up the wrappers of those without ...

So, if you opt for cello on, try to store like with like to as great an extent as possible ... PLUS (and this is the important part), if you DO go the cello on route, be sure to take it off before lighting the cigar ... only one of the guys here lights his with cello on and he does so because he likes the psychadelic colors it makes when on fire ...

hegemonic - I have, and I agree. I tried it the traditional way, with a sugar cube. To me, it tasted like spearmint Sambuca. I hate Sambuca. The first time I had it, I could barely swallow and my chin and shirt ended up drinking more than my mouth. It was quite disgusting. Since then, it's been a little more tolerable since I know what to expect 😉

Anyone want to try tradicional Absithe?, stop on by. I might have a little Pernod and some sugar cubes ready to go. Its good if done right. The French Absinthe is the only way to go. Do NOT drink the Spanish kind.
