this is mostly for the new people.
when a person comes on the board and claims to be a newbie. but starts with a bunch of posts, pictures, looking for different cigars and other things, and just jumps right in with both feet.
chances are thats not a newbie,
its just a person that changed their screen name, for what ever reason and started over as someone else.some people are not who they seem to be.

i dont know if i got my point accross or not, but just be careful who you box up your cigars and ship too.

Excellent point Tony!

I have been hit hard recently by a couple a newbs that were just new to the site not new to cigars.

are you guys suggesting that some "newbies" are trying to get cigars for free? if so, you should be able to avoid this in trades by requiring the newb to ship first. i would always offer to send first to veterans just to make sure they're comfortable with trading with me. i guess a newb to newb trade is a little more risky because you don't know who to trust. i'd be very careful about trading with another newb.

I think he's claiming that some people may fake newbie status to get in on "Welcome the Newbie" bombs and "just for askin" specials. Show me a generous man, and I'll show you 10 men ready to take advantage of him.

I had slight trouble when I traded with a fellow newbie recently. Cigars arrived in an envelope, without any padding or packaging. Some were heavily damaged. I was told I would be getting a makeup package and never did.

Considering I pack mine up pretty damn well, it was annoying - but nothing major.

Yes, look out for the scammers. Pimpstickdaddy still owes me a BOX of CAO Blacks. I wouldn't doubt he is still lurking about as someone else.

hit it on the button,
just because someone says their a newbie does not always mean their a newbie.
it took me days before i started posting on a daily basis, figuring out the cigar lingo, and weeks before i new how to post a pic after resizing.
and now you got a person that did all that in one day???

hd's just watchin out for the rightious people. he's watchin our backs. he doesn't want to see the good ones get scammed, and he's seen a few. you can't beat that kind of brotherhood. you can't always see behind yer back, so its awsome to have people like that around you.

get to know the people you want to deal with. read their posts, do a little research, and you can always ask the guys that have been here awhile.

play it smart.

hdking, I agree with you. The post you question has raised some red flags to me, but nothing absolute yet. I'm watching it. When something sounds too good to be true, it normally is.

Ok, you all caught on to my game, LOL!
In all honesty, . . . I am a newbie, and am willing to try any cigar given to me. There are so many I haven't tried before and would really enjoy to try one or two of them to make sure I really enjoyed it the first time. I've read something about newbies sending SteveS a cigar too, but then I've done that. Does that make me a vetran now? LOL!

Thanks Phillip for blowing my cover, ROFLMCAO!!!

How dare they pretend to be newbies?

LOL - actually, I was thinking about changing my handle, but everyone would know who I was soon enough.

Maybe I should pretend to be a woman. 🙂

Me neither... Should I get it?
:)
Who shoud I get it from ?
:)
I am also newbie here( registered in September )
and to cigars( started in August ).
So far I went for only 1 small trade with another newbie(Ryan) and it went well(at least I think so).
It is too bad that we do not keep a track of the trades and traders records...
Oh... well... too much expectations, huh?

HD. I might be one of the people your talking about from sending that pkg. to djfrenchy, but the way it came about is he e-mailed me and asked me what he needed to do to get started. I told him he needed to send me a pkg. first in good faith and then I would send him one back, which he did. Also, I was burned by pepsiman when I first started, so I understand your concern. Whenever I do a trade from then on, I only respond to people who reply on the board first and then send an e-mail. Anyhow, I hope we've seen the last of that guy. Take care.

Also too, I would like to say that it seems that quite a few of the recent "newbies" have proven themselves quite well!! If you have been here a short while, still consider a newbie, but been active in trades and bombing runs, Phil is not talking about you guys!! I have been very impressed by a lot of you in your "getting" the idea of BOTL!!

And if you a newbie that hasn't traded yet...best way is to just jump in, like they say above knowing that you will probably have to ship your end first. Or just send out random acts of kindness bombs to people you deem "deserving".

I think the main idea is to just be aware that there are plenty of folks that will jump in, claiming "I'm new" just to take advantage of those of us that love to share. Then...poof, they are gone.

To those of you proving yourselves as we speak I applaud you, and fear you! LOL

Phil has a good point for newbies and vets alike - wouldn't want anyone to get so burned on a possible scam that they're seeing RED..........
I've was scammed as a newbie, but the scammer was bounced outta here very quickly. The bad ones don't last long, thats for sure. And thats because there are so many great BOTL's here like Phil that keep an eye out for all of us.

Sometimes ya pays yer money and takes yer chances.
