Madison's a great town. Add some of the local music to your plans. I've seen up and coming bands before they made it big such as Blues Traveler, Black Crows... in some of the hole in a wall bars. Madison, being a college town near Milw, and between the Twin Cities and Chicago have bands stop in for a quickie on the way between "real gigs."

There are also "has beens" still lurking around. Look for the Clyde Stubblefield Band. Clyde Stubblefield was the legendary "Funky Drummer" for James Brown's band in his hayday. He setteled down in the Madison area and grabs some local students/musicians to play funky/bluesy tunes on a regular basis at various bars in Madtown. Don't know if he's still around there but well worth a $5 cover to see, hear, and meet a legend (in my opinion).
