Cruiser brought up a good point on the "storage" thread. I think he was at least half kidding, but he suggested that the cap end be lit, thereby saving money on cutters. Now I don't know about saving money via this method, but can most cigars be smoked "backwards"? If you're in a pinch with a cigar and no cutter, wouldn't it be better to light the cap rather than bite it off and risk unraveling? I'm sure certain cigars are rolled in such a way to build flavor as you smoke, but I can't imagine that most are. This is an interesting thought...

for one thing, the end of the cigar where you cut it has some short filler I believe, as I have on occassion noticed pieces of tobacco sometimes fall out of the cigar after clipping, and if the draw is very tight, I sometimes scrape the tobacco by the cap and that often helps. The blend of the cigar is made to be smoked from the proper end, as the cigar isn't the same all the way along it, it changes and sometimes dramatically because of the recipe used by the manufacturer, the best part of the cigar is the when you first start to smoke it.

I don't know the answer to this. I don't know why it would make any difference. The "complexities" and "build" that comes about as you smoke a cigar is the result of tars building up in the unsmoked tobacco. There is no special magic formula of placing certain tobaccos at certain points in a cigar. The blend of the tobacco is set from the inside-out, not top to bottom or vice-versa. I do know that there is no short filler in the foot of a long filler cigar. If there is, dude, you gots yo'self a fake 🙂 The straight edge at the foot of a cigar is the result of a chaveta trimming the foot to make it straight.

My guess is it's built to smoke cap first because the cap holds it together, right? Wouldn't it unravel if you went foot first?

Curse you........being w/out your cutter is like being w/out a condom when you were 16 and looking to get lucky your first time. Like AE always says in their commercials, never leave home w/out it. Really, I don't know.......never tried it before.

HAHAHAHA...This is too damn funny....About a week ago, while in my car on the way to work (40 miles each way), I clipped the cap off of a IT Super Fuerte Robusto/earlier prototype thanks to Mtjack, and I dropped it on the passenger seat momentarily...It was about 9:30OPM in a dark area of the expressway and after I retrieved it off of the seat, I proceeded to toast what I thought was the foot...Nope...I said something like "Oh S***" as soon as I noticed that I was toasting the head...I then said "to Hell with it...Im not letting this thing go to waste", so I continued to finish lighting the thing up and smoked it...Did not notice anything different at all...It tasted exactly like a cross between the Super Fuerte and a Mayorga...Excellent!...Try it with a cheaper cigar and I bet you won't notice any difference...I don't believe the comment that the blenders were blending it to be smoked a certain direction (????)...That makes no sense whatsoever

Aberdeen, just curious...Do you ever "purge" your cigars?...Because you said that the "best part of a cigar is when you first start to smoke it", or something to that effect (not verbatim)...I have smoked a cigar much more than halfway down, and after purging it, it tastes as good as when I first lit it...just curious

rookie, no I do not purge cigars, I smoke them until they become bitter which varies from cigar to cigar, I have noticed that Indian Tabac goes south around half way, on the other hand I can smoke a Diamond Crown down to my fingers. I do not know for a fact about blending, but I have read articles in which some manufacturers specifically state they do change the blend at different parts of the cigar. The Felipe whatever guy said as much in an interview with a cigar he introduced a few months ago. Also usually certain parts of the plant are usually in a particular location in the cigar. I don't want to get in a debate about it as I don't know other than what I have read. But I don't stick with a cigar very long when it starts getting sour and bitter, not worth my time. I would rather remember it for its most pleasant qualities.

Oh wow...I couldn't believe how many cigars I tossed when they became bitter before I learned how to purge (NO, this isn't a bulemic (sp?) thread..LOL)...I wanted to kick myself after purging my first cigar and couldn't believe what I was missing..Tastes like a new cigar!
