Carbon-monoxide fumes from this homemade barbecue grill sickened 14 people Saturday night when it was used to roast a whole pig in the basement of a city home. The grill consists of half of a 55-gallon drum, two propane burners and a makeshift grate. Atop it is a copper pot containing meat. Two 25-pound propane tanks that fueled the grill through the hose in the foreground were removed by firefighters. Rubin Cornejo, 57, of 948 N. Fifth St., was cooking the pig Saturday night in preparation for a family birthday party on Sunday.
The fire marshal attributed the incident to human error stemming from cultural differences. “They are Mexican and I'm sure this sort of thing is done all the time in Mexico where the weather is a lot nicer and the homes have more open-air areas,” he said. “That and I don't think they realized how quickly the gas can build up inside a closed building.
Adding to the situatio was the fact that plastic had been placed over the windows in Cornejo's semidetached home for winter insulation!

they can't use it anymore

More then roasting a whole pig..i think they were making "carnitas"...the copper pot is very indicitive of that...you see that set-up all the time around this area...
