In January 1945, when victory in World War II was in sight but by no means accomplished. Roosevelt held no parades or balls. He gave a short speech from a White House balcony, took part in an inaugural lunch and then returned to work at a cost to the taxpayers of less that $1,000

To crown Bush, $40,000,000 in donations, $18,000,000 of Washington DC funds and an unknown amount for military participants and protection will be spent.

Just something to think about.

I think one of the reasons for that is psychological. I think our government wants to send the message that those with whome we are engaged are not having the effect on our nation they'd like to think they are. You know, kinda like hiding your pain so as not to reveal a weakness. We're fighting terrorism. It seems that terrorists need to see results to continue to recruit and stay motivated.

Ahhh, but what do I know? Just a thought about your thought.

It has also been said that Roosevelt was too ill to attend the balls and that was the true reason for the change that year. So it was spun that way to hide that fact.

've got no problem with sending 18 mil on the inauguration. Less than 15-cents per citizen the way I figure it. Heck, look at what we do; spend hundreds of bucks a year on cigars and then we set a match to them. (Known as Big Bucks down on the Rez.) Life with no frills is like vanilla ice cream with no hot fudge. Clinton did the same and IMHO that was truly a waste. But then humble options are like you know what; everybody has one and a lot of the time they stink. LOL

I'm confident that President George W Bush will spend far less for his fourth inauguration ceremonies than he is spending this time. It will probably be more in line with FDR's 1945 inauguration. You have to think that it gets boring after so many....

an ego maniac, backed by the wealthy that he serves, is being crowned, and you guys want to discuss whether someone in a wheel chair who died 60 years spent less on his inaugeration.

It is too much to spend during war time.

I'm a Bush supporter, but that doesn't change the facts.

I call a spade an F'ing shovel.
